1-5.
This is like the movie Groundhog Day. We relive the same game (almost) every week.
End of 1st Q down 7-6.
With 1:12 left in the first half we were down 14-6 and had the ball.
Fumbled, gave up a score, then went 70 yards in 3 plays to get tackled on the 5 as time expired.
Lost 45-6.
We work on things all week and then don't do them in a game.
Our RBs went back to not seeing running lanes; their guys saw their openings in HD... in the EZ view most of our holes looked bigger, but they read theirs; we didn't.
Starting QB takes off and runs too early. Had 2 passes called in the first series that ended up in a run of 1 and sack of -10. Both times, our primary receiver was open.
Backup QB throws well and sees better- but not much of a runner and is a little more careless with the football.
We are now kind of running a 2 system QB- one for runs one for passes ("runner" QB was 1-1 for 28 yds., but took off/got sacked the other 4 passes called. The other QB was 4-9 passing for 91 yds.).
Up front (OL/TE) we start 5 sophomores and a junior, so the hope is we will get better... someday.
Homecoming for us meant a total lack of focus and one starter being injured in homecoming activities (he played, but missed practice a few days, so he didn't start. Wasn't worth much when he came in anyway...).
The biggest issue for me is we collectively quit midway through the 3rd quarter.
I am at a point where I am really questioning my decision to take this job and my abilities at turning something like this around.
The team we played is a good team (new school; first year of playing varsity- split from the largest school in the state and last years biggest class state champion... they have a few seniors but are mostly juniors), but we could've played with them- and we did for about 28 minutes.
Those last 20 minutes are killers for us though.
We go on the road next week to one of the four 3-3 teams in our region (conference). It's a 316 mile drive (one way).
End of rant/update.
