I’m looking for different types of challenges to do with my team to hammer home the aspect of relying on each other to do their jobs and to pick up their teammate when they fall.
Yesterday I challenged my team physically. I grouped them into teams of 5. Each team had two 35 lb plates. They had to hold one in each hand by the lip of the plate while performing a farmers carry around the track. Couldn’t run with the plates. Once one team member can’t continue. They set it down and a teammate picks up where they left off. The player that had to put the plate down, now runs a lap around the track to get back to their team. The first team to complete two laps wins. This was the first time doing something like this. In the future I will use 45 lb plates and possibly do the farmers carries for 4 laps.
Does anybody have any activities like this that they are willing to share? I appreciate it fellas.

Towel wars: (Two man tug of war tournament between linemen, and one between skills - or O v D. Using long beach type towels wrapped with tape at each end).
Bar wars: (Two man hang from a pull-up bar. Using same beach towels. Who can hang the longest. Again divide into linemen and skills, or O v D).
Car Wars: (Two man teams push a car 20 yards. Fastest time wins. Divide into line and skills, or O v D).
Bucket wars (Fill 5 gal. buckets with water. Relay style. Each man carries 2 buckets 10 yards. 4 man teams mixed, or O v D. It's not which team finishes first, but which team finishes with the most water in each bucket).

One thing that gets your guys bonding (may not be that fun, I'll admit) is volunteering your guys to volunteer in the community. This usually can be spun in a fundraising capacity. Guys in the off-season (entire program, even the feeders) sign up for shifts / coverage of an event. Kids wear a program t-shirt, chaperoned by a coach, present a positive face to the community, be seen. I've done TPC Golf Tournaments helping sell lemonade, car washes, house painting, officiating youth games (in season), working youth football camps, cleaning lots for the city, mowing yards, etc. Kids get paired up and work together. Sometimes its the "THIS SUCKS" activity that produce the stronger bonds between kids. Another one is hosting a 7on7 tournament but include lineman activities, too (very similar to "Worlds Strongest Man" competitions), with the winner claiming a title of Such & Such Tournament Strongman Champion (with a t-shirt)

Physical Activities to bond - depending on what your off-season engagement is like, one thing we had done a while ago was always have a individual / team competition at the end of the week (Saturdays) based on the phase of the lifting program. The activity would vary with the intent of get all athlete types a chance to dominate. * Seated weighted row (sit and pull 100lbs on a rope 20 yards away) for time. * Most burpees in 2 minutes * Fastest 10,20,30 yd dash * Pullup champion * Indian leg wrestling champion * Simon Says Then you can do a TEAM competition where the winners are treated to watermelon slices while the 'losers' run 110s Anything you do to compete will challenge the kids and give them a taste of victory

The weight room is the best.
We had a coach come in when I was at another school and one activity that really sticks out is this game which I will try to explain.
Split up into two teams. Everyone is blindfolded and has a ball (rhino skin balls work well). Everyone starts out close enough that people get hit with a ball on the first volley.
After you get hit and you go the sideline you can take off your blindfold. Now is when the fun begins. THe guys on the other team can yell at the guys on the other team to touch a poison ball (like a red ball) and if you do you are out. The guys on your own team are obviously telling you what ball to pick up and where to try and throw it. So it is is about listening to the "good" voices and tuning out the ones trying to get you out.
I am sure I screwed up some very pivotal piece of instruction here but hopefully that helps a little.
