Coaches, I’m interested to see what some of you all do for a little extra income during the summer time? The old saying of we didn’t get into this for the money is certainly true! However, I’m sure most of you all can agree that times are tough! Just wanted to reach out to see if anyone has anything good going for them? Thanks

Teaching summer school and coaching football leaves no time for side hustles for me. I guess summer school is the side hustle. It is a good way to make money in California at $72/hour.

In our district we have:
Behind the Wheel Drivers Ed (2 teachers) Summer school (several teachers for 3 weeks) Summer cleaning crew (janitorial, painting, grounds)
These are just jobs at school that pay well and usually have openings. I do BTW driving.

When I was coaching I worked at what I knew best during the summer...football camps. It wasn't great pay, but it was something, and I enjoyed meeting other coaches and athletes. Learned a lot, and was able to share some of my own knowledge with other coaches, and definitely helped expand my networking. I was also fortunate to have a dad who owned his own business and was able to put in a few hours a week with him.

I do summer school but we only get 20 bucks hour. I'm starting to give plasma. I'm looking at a couple more. I’ve been doing a bunch of delivery gig app work this summer, mostly for Amazon Flex. The base rate is $22/hr in my area, but surge pricing on busy or bad weather days can sometimes go up to as high as $35/hr. It is a little bit of a grind, but it’s never more than 2-5 hr blocks of time in my area so you can get in and get your shift over with quickly. I also pick up some time doing Doordash stuff in the evenings, which usually only winds up averaging around $20-25 here, if I’m lucky, but it’s pretty easy work if you don’t mind driving around with a podcast or some music on. The downsides to both are that the apps can be buggy and their driver support is pretty useless, plus home deliveries in general can be dangerous due to dogs, accidents, homeowners who are way too quick to pull firearms on “trespassers.” Both sure as hell beat selling plasma—at least for me, because I really, thoroughly hate needles and having my blood drawn.

I used to do driver ed stuff and mow the district's grass. I think dr ed was $20/hr and mowing was only $10. I did the mowing primarily to get paid for taking care of the football field and practice area.

It’s honestly SO boring, even with close calls.

I'm sure if your'e a homeowner, your. house is cheaper and bigger than mine!! Lol. It used to be (just a few years ago) if you made 6 figures you were considered well off, maybe even rich. Now that's a standard income around here.

Some people glamorize how easy summer driving is, but it is the most boring thing. I spend most of my time thinking of all the things that I need to and want to be doing other than that. I think I am one of the few that likes the classroom part more than the driving.

Summer Parks and Recreation (supervise playgrounds etc.)
Umpire Baseball and-or Softball.
Work buildings and grounds (such as grooming baseball-softball fields).
Guess it depends on how much money you need-want, what you like to do, and how much you want to be home-doing stuff with the Fam instead of working the time you have off in summer.
