3rd trip to the state tourny and I am just as anxious as the first. Should have taken a full day instead of a half. Wrestling is the bomb.com!
VA R4 2 Seed 285.
Love you guys!

We got boys district this weekend. Boys and girls state next week. I think this is my last year of coaching wrestling. I'm tired of giving up my weekends. I coach middle school then go right into high school.

When in doubt scream “run the half”! My buddy took a job at an inner city school and filled every weight class with whoever he could get. Taught them double legs, halves and stand ups. Amazing what you can do when you don’t give up forfeits and keep it simple.

Wrestling was my first sport I had any success in. I wasn't going to play football in HS because my JFL experience was so God awful. I was just going to wrestle.
Wrestling is by far a much harder sport than pretty much everything. Wrestled for 10 years (including 2 in college) and coached for another 7.

I coach middle school then go right into high school. I got out of high school and started helping with our middle school program a couple years back. The season is way shorter, we only do one Saturday, and it's very low stress. It's awesome. We keep it super simple (as others have mentioned) - one takedown series, 1-2 ways to get out from bottom, 1-2 tilts, and then drill the crap out of it. No running, make it fun, get everyone matches.

Yes my middle school season is short with only 2 weekend tournaments. We have 3 matches a week for 3 weeks. Practice about 4 weeks before go into matches. It's the high school season I slide into after middle school. All the tournaments every weekend between boys, girls and jv just wears you down. I'm from Iowa, I've wrestled most of my life. I didn't wrestle in college cause I was worn out. I've coached wrestling for a long time. I've also coached basketball. I think I might go back to basketball.

Double leg Stand Up Sit Out Tight waist - far ankle Tight waist - chop Half Nelson (and a few ways to get to it) Easton I think that might be all we've taught this year.

U need a five point move in there. Head and arm throw is easy, later drop not bad, I liked the Japanese whizzer but I've dislocated peoples shoulders with that.

Mo has 4 classes for boys and 2 for girls. Privates are not split. Class 1 girls and 1 and 2 boys this Wed and Thurs. Class 2 girls and 3 and 4 boys Fri and Sat. I forgot to add state divided into 4 districts. Take top 4 at each weight class, 16 per a weight class.

I quit wrestling in 1996 and was never shown a single tilt from Jr High to college. Coached from 98 to 06. Never taught a tilt, nor coached in a program that taught them to the general masses. Wrestling just a different sport to a degree now.

To be honest we probably taught too many when I coached at the high school, most kids weren't capable enough. We'd work on a "series" for a few days and then move on to something else...the best schools in our area are masters of a few things and that was definitely not our approach. I think we had a technique coach who knew too much for his own good.
With the young guys we might introduce 1-2 new wrinkles a week, but we haven't taught a new takedown since week 1.

We would teach "the system" for the first monthish and then once we got into the season I'd show stuff based off situations we found ourselves in in matches. Wrestling is a sport that it's really good to have a bunch of coaches in room as everyone has different things their body and style will allow them to do. I understood leg rides, but I never did them because they weren't in my repertoire. I struggled reaching the tall lanky kids who could do it.

Yeah I feel that...as a former heavyweight, I was always best suited for doing some modified version of what we were teaching for the bigger guys. My last couple years at the high school we didn't have a heavyweight and our 215 was pretty lanky...I felt like I wasn't bringing a ton to the table so I worked a lot with the JV kids who had no background.
