The video below is our annual Shrine Bowl of the Carolinas all star game. It's pretty boring to watch as with most of these all star games unless you have a player involved. However I noticed something in the early stages of the game that I thought was a bad coaching move especially in a game like this where you only have 4 practices, but even in a regular season game.
Situation, team is punting and
Opening kick off starts at the 1:18:00 mark, the sequence in question happens around the 1:31:14 mark which is the second punt/return of the game for the returner.
On the 1st return, ball kicked 40 yards with hang time/coverage is there R catches makes a move and gets 6 yards.
Second return same R, 33 yard punt with hang time and R calls for a fair catch and muffs and kicking team recovers..... BUUUUT there is an inadvertent whistle. So everyone is going to have a replay of the down - punt again.
Third punt (replay) same R is back again, 40 yard punt again with hang time and coverage that actually has the R back up a couple of steps and R muffs it again and this time the punt recovers.
Would you run your R back out after the first punt or put in R #2?

We probably wouldn’t. But that’s bc being a smaller school we may not have an R2 to put in. Good chance we just let the second one hit and call peter and don’t catch it though.

It's a all star game, your trying to give kids maybe their last chance to shine. Sadly, that athlete didn't,but you gave him a chance.

Real game? Depends. If the PR1 is a proven player and can shake that kind of thing off, then absolutely he goes back out there. If he has had some issues during the season or the week leading up the to the game and I have a PR2 then I probably make the switch.
Just like I would not pull a DB just because he got burned once.
