Any tricks out there for regenerating grip on footballs that would be legal? We have a mix of leather and composite and by the end of season they had lost a lot of grip. Other than that, they are in great shape, just a little slick, especially in our cold climate.
I have the Wilson spray tack and it seems to wash off very quickly.
Some thoughts I had were rosin or pine tar but I don't know how legal those options are. Not looking to break the rules just get them back to how they are new.

Hey fellow coaches, I was wondering if you guys had the same problem with football grip my team has, specifically in the rain. During practice we typically bring 25-30 leather Wilson balls, but after a session in the rain all of them get water logged or dry out and become hard. It’s not worth spending all this money replacing leather balls for a practice so we use composite balls, but they do not replicate the authentic leather. Does anyone else have the problems of: 1. Preventing leather deterioration from water 2. Rejuvenating the leather after being ruined by water 3. Maintaining sustainable grip in the rain
Thanks

During practice we typically bring 25-30 leather Wilson balls Thanks 25-30 footballs out at practice?? WOW!! We would usually have a dozen, maybe 14 in the bag, but only need that many for specialty period. My advice would be to just take 18 out at practice, leave 6 as just game balls, and now you still have 6 as replacements for practice and games if needed.

We take that many out when we run our joint practices or big try outs. Otherwise it’s probably 15-18. However we have cut this down to a few due to them constantly being ruined by rain. Is this a problem you find yourself

Is this a problem you find yourself No. Not really. After they get wet, take them inside and put by a fan overnight along with the ball bag. They should be dry for sure in the morning. The next morning, take a wet towel and rub them down a little, that really helps. Then make sure to have a ball brush and some ball conditioner/wax. I like this stuff the best: biggameusa.com/shop/accessories/football-prep-cond/big-game-ball-wax?gad_source=1&gclid=Cj0KCQjw2a6wBhCVARIsABPeH1tm33wdLAQT5faXjXKOhm7FYw_0c4hwI9dE27hUGWr2AbBvKLw667oaArZGEALw_wcBOur qb's are in charge of the footballs. Those primadonna's will take care of them. Ha.

The Wilson bar of wax works really well with a brush. Scrub on some was & brush it in good. Doesn't make the ball super "sticky" but gives it a good tack that stays pretty well in the rain
