irishdog CS s73 Wait, so now we are suggesting that there is an underlying conspiracy from Group of 5 ADs and football coaches to direct another AD to order his football coach to not run a particular offensive scheme? Going to have agree here. That is over the top.

Dude, do you honestly ever do anything on this board other than try to pick arguments? I have seriously NEVER heard you ask an X & O question or discuss strategy from the standpoint of trying to learn. I only see you try to cherry pick arguments with the sole intent of debunking what you read. Why in God's name are you so arrogant as to think you are knowledgeable and capable enough to play devils advocate to everything you read here? It takes quite an ego to feel comfy enough to do that w/ regularity. I have no idea why Army isn't running the flexbone when Monken has actually run it w/ the most success once this season and Monken makes the comment "felt like Army football". Somebody posited a theory and I found it interesting. Go troll another thread. Your antics have become boorish.

Going to have agree here. That is over the top. I read the post as saying the AAC powers-that-be didn't want Army if they were going to run a "contrarian" offense the current schools never saw otherwise. That's different than a "conspiracy to...direct another AD to order his football coach to not run a particular offensive scheme." Army AD-administration could have said no, thanks then. Or fired Monken and hired another Todd Berry, Bobby Ross, Stan Brock. Since those coaches did so well running more "conventional" offenses.

That is rough since Chestnut was hired by a guy whom he had known-coached with (Kennesaw State), only to get fired after one season. Unfortunately for him Newberry is a defensive guy, first-year HC who not only had a losing record but lost to Army. Somebody had to take the fall I guess.

I started a thread about easiest blocking schemes, pros and cons of track blocking etc 3 weeks ago, specifically asking to compare and contrast those pros/cons to triple option schemes. What has become boorish are the constant posts regarding how foolish everyone else is for not running the flexbone/triple option. About how the coaches must be lying for their reasons given. Posts where a coach references a singular performance and says "see" as evidence but when countered with antithetical performance complains that such a comment is "just arguing" Posts where coaches state that football is essentially "dead to them" because of the offensive systems being run. Seriously...you are clapping back (as the kids say) for someone holding up a mirror and saying "Uh, guys, are we really suggesting that the athletic directors and coaches of another conference are forcing Army's AD to order Army's coach to not run the flexbone?" Particularly given the fact that they ran flexbone the entire CC game, which was after the deal was already finalized? No, boorish is the "get off of my lawn" vibe that seems to keep growing here.

You guys are a trip...the little flexbone / triple option guild on the huey board definitely knows its x's and o's but fellas, you guys need to get a grip. Seriously. Again, a post suggesting a conspiracy from athletic directors and coaches to dictate what another school will be able to run, particularly given that the team ran the supposedly "banned" offense AFTER it was admitted into the conference, just come on.

I am admittedly biased toward UC option football, but have had success coaching offense in the gun with sort of the college flavor of the day. I firmly believe that if you cannot be better than the best teams in your conference at running the same O/D than it is better to be different. Different can come in many forms... air raid, wishbone, single wing, etc. Anyway, I took it more as they meant that perhaps Army wanted to be more attractive to potential conferences and thus changing offenses would help with this. However, I think I was wrong in this assumption. While it does seem pretty out therr, it is an interesting take. I mean if the government killed JFK, as most Americans now believe, is it that outlandish to think that schools might try to pressure Army into not running an offense they many coaches openly admit they hate playing against for various reasons? I'm with you it seems like a stretch, but who knows. I appreciate all the comments and lets just try to have fun here guys and be respectful and not personal. This is all for enjoyment, not added stress. Can we please use the term Flexbone Triple Option Guild... we can all put in that little signature line at the bottom or whatever it is called if somebody will tell us how.

Click on "Profile" under header above. Then "Edit Profile" in upper right corner. Scroll down to "Signature" box. Could've found that out by using "Help" feature (also above).

Like you said, I think the statements were more towards Army trying to get into a conference, and probably the conference coaches and ADs saying they don't want a TO team in there conference cause it's too hard to prepare for. Proof of that is when GT was Triple and in the ACC, Clemson, Duke, VT, Miami and any other top tier ACC team who had them on schedule would always petition to have their bye week the week before GT.

I read it as the AD's of the conference coaches probably didn't want the headache of dealing with the contrarian offense and the Army and AD at army were saying, well we might be changing with the rule changes, etc. In other words, maybe Monken was getting similar pressure like KN at Navy & felt like with the rules changes, the new conference and KN getting heat, maybe this is a good time to make a change. I also wouldn't doubt that Monken is maybe thinking about future prospects and marketability. But eho knows, the whole thing is baffling to me,

Where were you able to watch Harding? Not the entire game, but several highlights/plays on youtube:
finals full game interesting contrasts Mines QB has more TD passes than any college player Harding ends up rushing for over 6000 yards on the year

Really fun to be able to skip ahead easily to the next play. Total domination by Harding. They were driving the DT's sometimes 5 yards of the ball in the 2nd half. Really cool watching the flexbone in action running about 6 plays and just demolishing the other team. And then going 2 for 2 on passing for 2 big first downs. Ha Hats off to the Harding D line as well. Their pash rush was amazing.

irishdog CS s73 Wait, so now we are suggesting that there is an underlying conspiracy from Group of 5 ADs and football coaches to direct another AD to order his football coach to not run a particular offensive scheme? Group of Five Conspiracy? Hardly. But I'm certain those AAC coaches had plenty of input to their OWN AD's regarding adding Army, and as a former college/high school HC I know I would have had something to say, especially taking into consideration what the climate of college football is as a Group of Five coach. I'm also certain those AD's gave that input to the AAC Commish, who in turn, likely had a lengthy discussion with the Army AD. You can take it from there.

Not that my intention is stir up trouble here. Yes, Monken ran his "old offense" against Coastal AFTER being accepted into the AAC. I'm not in Monken's head, but he has always struck me as an "I'll prove it" type of guy. Could it be he was sending a message to his new opponents? It is my opinion Army did what it had to do in order to bet accepted into the AAC, and Monken will run HIS offense HIS way, and any damn time he sees fit. Army could beat Navy running ANY offense this year (although they could use a little help defensively in late game coverage schemes), but was the offense Monken used against Navy (and most teams) just an additional headache AAC coaches will have to face next year? Because IMHO Monken proved against Coastal he could run his "old offense" at a moment's notice.
