I feel like I watched a jack of all trades, master of none out of both teams. No identity that I could tell.
Interested in other takes.

Navy has been that way all year. Army not so much. I watched Harding drop 55 on Leinor-Rhyne instead

I'm sure there was some logic to their game-planning and play-calling, but what it was escaped me.
Just seemed like a lot of grab-bagging.
Army should sell out and go full Single Wing all the way. That's pretty much what they're running anyway.

I’m pretty sure Navy’s quick passing game came straight from that old Georgia Southern Playbook that’s online. It’s from the Tim Stowers era. Stowers has said in a podcast that he used gun at Georgia Southern some….so there’s that.

That's pretty much what they're running anyway. Watching THE game 2 weeks ago (Clemson/Carolina) though glad USuC did with they did defensively, I told my boys, "There's no way Clemson is losing this game." I mentioned that to a coach on my hallway (another Clemson guy) on Monday, and his response was basically what you said.... "Coaches are going to do what they want to do."

Was at the game. I agree with everyone that Navy had zero identity. Army was just a little better but not by much when it came to this as well.

But Army went for 365 on the ground in the "old system" the previous game and Monken said "felt like army football". Just don't get it. I'm going to beat the dead horse one more time, rather than change everything, why not add outside veer? I think it would keep the offense viable. Like someone said above, Harding dropped 55 in the D2 semi's and it going to the National Chip I believe for the 1st time (don't quote me) under the "no cut" rules. SMH

Their champ game is on espnu 1pm this saturday. I'll be watching. I grew up about 10 miles from the Colorado Mines campus, so I always have an interest in what they are doing.
It will be an interesting game with the contrast of styles.

I've gone away from cable, and do mainly apps. If you have the ESPN app you can go back and watch the semi game. But will definitely be watching the champ game live. I was in and out on phone keeping up with the game while sitting at the Army/Navy game. If you ever get a chance to go, don't miss out. Even with both teams loosing their way everything about the game and everything before is definitely worth it.

I'm going to beat the dead horse one more time, rather than change everything, why not add outside veer? I think it would keep the offense viable. What is outside veer? Why will that help? Just ordered some popcorn and put my feet my up. Y'all don't disappoint.

If Monken's comment "felt like Army football" then as the HC why isn't he running THAT offense? I don't buy his initial reason that the "no cut" rule will hurt the old Army offense. That was a diversion. The rule didn't seem to hurt Army vs. Coastal. I think it's deeper than that. I think it has everything to do with joining the AAC. I bet the AAC coaches/AD's weren't too thrilled with playing the "old" Army offense forcing the Army AD to negotiate with Monken in making some changes in order for the merger to happen. In this day and age of entertainment steering "financial" considerations that seems to be more of a "reason" than a rules change.

Great take because I have been racking my brain thinking how they could really think the perimeter cutting is somehow kryptonite to the offense

irishdog CS s73 Wait, so now we are suggesting that there is an underlying conspiracy from Group of 5 ADs and football coaches to direct another AD to order his football coach to not run a particular offensive scheme?
