In high school played against Tavian Banks, former standout running back at Iowa and played some for Jacksonville in the NFL. Very talented - my sophomore year he made SI's "Faces in the Crowd" for the monster game he had against us that season. Then when I was a junior, we played them for homecoming...still trying to figure out who scheduled that one - it was a long night!

Coached against Randle El of the Steelers in Highschool. He was as spectacular then as he is now. We actually stopped him and the option game, until we shanked a punt and lost the playoff game. But my god was he special.

Marco Rivera (elmont HS, NY/Penn State/Green Bay) was pretty good in HS. I thought I played well against him. He was 6'5 and went to Penn State, I was 6' and went to Salisbury State. 5 inches are a big difference in what state school you go to! :0)

Allen Iverson may have been the best that I've coached against. Great HS QB, outstanding FS, and hell on wheels as a returner. Returned 3 punts for TDs against us (fortunately, 2 were, correctly, called back) before the HC told the ST coach that he was fired if Iverson touched another punt. Tough as a $2 steak, too. The little sonofagun always got up.

Even in small school ball in Southwest Kansas you can face some quality players if you are around long enough. Steve Tasker - Leoti, Ks high later with the Buffalo Bills. Mark Simoneau - Smith Center, Ks high and currently with the Philadelphia Eagles. and one that never made it to the pros and was a bust after an injury at Nebraska was DeAngelo Evans who we faced in the playoffs in 93. Tasker was probably the best of the bunch. None of them from a high school with over 160 students or so.

The fab 5 from LB Poly. Winston Justice, Darnel Bing, Mercedies Lewis, Manual Write, and Hersel Dennis. They were Juniors at the time and they beat us in the Semi's that year. 3 will be 1st rounder this year with Write in the Pro's.
Other greats Casey Clawsen, Kenyon Rambo, Chris Lewis, Mike Patterson (USC DL 1st rounder), Fatfita from Utha (I have a great story about his guy), Sultan McCullah
Up and comers
Mark Sanchez, Alan Bradford, Sherice Write, Dennis Shoemate,

Bighit65 was that Whites senior year? We played against him my junior year (his senior year) and led 13-0 before he woke up and led them to a 28-13 win, he was a heck of a player; he was the QB, FS, kicker and punter for them.

I played against Haloti Ngata in high school. He was the MVP of the High School All-American Game, as well as an All-American at Oregon. He is supposed to get drafted in the top 10 this year. He is a BEAST. (we beat them 7-2)

Played against Darren Woodsen and Phillipe Sparks in HS (Cowboys & Giants), they were pretty good. Frosh year in college (University of Arizona) our defense had All Americans Byron Evans and Chuck Cecil (Eagles & Green Bay) as a welcoming crew to incoming Frosh TE's running across the middle, played against some great players in college and watched some great players when they were on offense against us, Rodney Peete (could scramble all over, uncatchable), Troy Aikman (made some unbelievable thread the needle throws), Dee Dowis(6tds, enough said, damn he was quick), we played UofMiami twice, everyone on their team was NFL talent. Strongest arm, 6'8 Dan McGuirre at San Diego State, could go deer hunting with a football, saw him throw a frozen rope off his back foot about 60 yards in a scrimmage, unreal arm strength. One kid I coached in HS years ago, Eric Johnson went to Nebraska and to the NFL, he had serious talent on a not very talented team, he was bigger than everyone on the team except one other kid, he was about 185 in HS and could fly.

In my short time as a coach I have had what I think to be two pretty good ball players who are in college now.
The first one is Demetrius Eaton. Eaton graduated in 2001 from HS and is now entering his senior year at Northwestern U. You may recall he was the guy who had the 86 yard fumble recovery for a TD at Mich St. this year. He has an outside shot of being a late draft pick in next year's draft
The other kid is Greg Bracy. Bracy graduated in 2002 from HS and now is a junior at Missouri. He is more oa track kid as he has broken the school team football record for the 40. This year he is expected to see some of the field.

I coached at Hargrave Military academy in Chatham VA for 2 years as an OC. I'll name some studs we had there- we had like 70 some kids sign D1 scholarships in 2 years:
Leonard Pope- TE UGA- entered the draft this year Ahmad Brooks- LB UVA- freakin stud Dacody Fagg- WR FSU Darrell Blackmon- RB/RET NC State Danny Ware- RB UGA DJ Parker- CB VTech Justin Harper- WR VTEch Cory Holt- should start QB at VTech this year
the list goes on and on- anyone of these guys were the best I had ever seen...amazing
Needless to say, coaching was not an issue- we just had to make sure the bus got to the game!

Dwight Freeney of the Colts sacked me about 12 times over three years. Scary thing was they had a LB who was better than he was. Ouch, it still hurts

Dacody Fagg- WR FSU . . . this kid must be the toughest kid in the world, with a name like that he must have had a lot of playground brawls through grade school.
The best I have coached is Vernon Crawford from Texas City, TX. OLB/DE that went on to Florida State and 3rd round pick for the NE Patriots. I coached him in Semi Pro for the Seacoast Hawks in Raymond, NH just after his NFL days.
