2 more years and I probably won't watch another HS football game the rest of my life honestly. After tonight, I may have watched my last HS football game. I have not watched as much HS football since retiring. When I have I'm a bit more selective in what teams I watch. I'll find local teams that still believe in running the ball, utilizing the play-action passing game, and play tough defense. Don't give up! I've found that there are more around than I originally thought.

Has anyone seen the Fyffe High School (AL) Offense?
They appear to be running a version of the Direct Snap DTDW...utilizing some unique O-Line concepts that feature 4-Man surfaces on either one side or both sides.
Saw one of their tapes on youtube...I loved watching them.

Week 3: Affront to the game Where do I find the film/playbook/clinics for this offense? Also, if anyone ever asks me to name our offense, it was going to be "Rainbow Sparkle" but now might go with "Affront to the Game" (I find some of the offense-naming silly). First off, screw you because you just made me go back and watch it again haha. They're an 11 personnel team as a base. But here's what a sampling of what happened in the first half. 1. They go 3 and out, punt. Maybe their best drive of the half. 2. They jump in some Wishbone thing they've never shown before. Get one first down, unforced fumble to us on the 4th play of the drive. 3. Couple more 3 and outs. 4. Jump in empty with their backup QB, give up immediate pressure and throw a pick. 5. Best play of the night, they get a 30 yard run. Kid gets called for taunting us after the play. They throw a double pass INT on the next play. 6. Unforced fumble on the exchange of an attempted reverse, another turnover. I think I summarized it succinctly in my original post haha.

Saw one of their tapes on youtube...I loved watching them. Seen them many times. In 2021 we played Geraldine HS, who essentially runs the same offense as Fyffe. We beat them. A few weeks later they beat Fyffe to end Fyffe's 51 game winning streak, which was the longest in the country at the time. We thought it was pretty cool. Sadly, that was the high point of our season, as we finished 5-5. But hey, we beat the team that beat Fyffe!

I think the year we went 0-9 and scored 26pts the entire year running split back veer might take the title away from that team. Man we were horrid.

I've found that there are more around than I originally thought. The problem with that is there are no good teams within an hour of me that run anything other than shotgun spread. We had a team win a state championship last year running the ball, but that guy retired. My son decided to stick out the rest of this season- their last game is tonight. So, I'll at least go to this game. Unless there's a change in coaching though for next season, that'll probably be it. It's OK though. I'm not that big a fan anyway. I've learned over the years that unless I have some skin in the game, I really don't care who wins and just watching football bores me.

Fyffe High School is running former DW guru Tim Murphy's Gun Wing (it isn't really a DW any longer). It is run out of a balanced line, most of the time. It retains most of his blocking schemes from his Double Wing Offense.

Is it because you're trying to market "your brand"? The one that really gets me is Gun I with an offset FB next to the QB. So dumb...

Get used to it because it ain't going to change. blb, it IS changing. Many coaches are going back to developing effective run games FIRST, and striking some balance in their offense by using "cosmetics" to make their offenses appear to be "modern" looking. Some of the best HS, college, and pro teams have figured out how to strike that balance and have had their teams make deep playoff runs, and winning championships because of it. irishdog I was not implying there are no "Spread to run" teams because there are and have been for decades. When Rich Rodriguez implemented his offense at Glenville State in the '90s he was basically running the Veer out of four-wide Shotgun. Randy Walker went to Gun-Spread at Northwestern to run the ball because he couldn't do it out of the I in the Big Ten. What I was saying is there will not be a mass return to "traditional" UC offenses like the I, Wishbone, Veer, Wing-T etc.

Tim made this change about 12-15 years ago. He had a great athlete at QB and wanted to feature him in a way that he couldn't do with him under center in a tight DTDW formation.
He has run several formation variations in the backfield with various alignments of the Wing, TB and blocking back.
He sells copies of his playbook: Coach Tim Murphy on Google

Whatever profession you're in, we all have (had) bosses that needed pleasing. Problem with coaching is some times our bosses were influenced by other people.

I was watching this video with another coach on staff who is the best mentor I have had in my career so far. He's been doing this for 40 years, while I am 7 years in. He was an assistant on the staff of the winning team. They ran the wishbone. He could name every play they ran in the game before they ran it as we watched the video. It was a thing of beauty. Like I said, I came up as a QB in the Air Raid/Franklin system, and that's what I love, but I love watching a good wishbone or Wing-T team.
Point of the story...as we are watching, another young-ish coach on the staff a year or two older than me walks by. He goes "yeah, this is why I didn't really like football back then. It's way better when it's all spread out" My old buddy goes "I liked it better when I got to coach in State Championships at the Astrodome". You can't say you love this game if you don't have a respect for the old-school, smashmouth stuff, just my opinion!

In HS football the object is to get ball into the EZ (and thus win).
How you do it doesn't matter all that much.
If the fan(atic)s in the stands aren't sufficiently entertained, that's their problem.

Don't like the way I'm doing it? Get a different guy.
