Hello fellow coaches. Spent 6 years coaching JuCo, and 2 as an assistant for HS. I have been blessed with an OC job this coming season. As camp comes closer I am having the yips about my playbook. I've seen zone read work at the 9 man level but the wide mesh i feel is what helps it. I'm having triple doubts about a power O read scheme. Keep in mind this is 9 man midwest low level football, but how does everyone feel about this? ibb.co/p1zbLjt. can a backside end split that fast enough? keep worrying about 4 man fronts

It's been 10+ years since I was in other than 11 man (8 man at the time... we did play some 9 man schools- especially in JV). I see a little 9 man here from time to time (it's big in ND)...
A few thoughts- (Take with a grain of salt as this is not a scheme we run here...):
I would think you can run it as planned. The game is a bit faster and some of those "end man reads" are more like reading midline because everything is condensed by losing a gap.
That being said, once you determine their DEs primary responsibility, I would think you could run it. We still run some goofy formations in 11 man where we have only 1 guy next to the C on the backside... and we have run options to that weak side.
You might want a plan B too: Remember in 9 man there are no numbering requirements, so you can use a lot of unbalanced formations and always have an eligible threat- so you could move the TE over... or move a Guard... a lot of possibilities...
Also- if you don't have a problem running/finding 2 TEs, you could run a kind of trey look and have the same read. You can even have a backside match-up with the weak TE...
Bottom line, you'll figure out some things in a hurry... and you may have to tweak it a bit... but I have a good friend in 8 man and he runs that with considerable success (they are unbalanced):
SE T G C E ___Z _______RB QB
They also motion across the formation to that look (so they start with 2 eligible players on the weak side).
