I still watch a fair amount of both NFL and CFB, but I mostly am watching for entertainment, I don't have it in me to be a rabid fan.
I've watched more CBB and NBA the last 6 years because my gf is an avid basketball fan and after football season is over, whatever she says goes.
Just about everything else fails to capture my attention, I just don't have the bandwidth.

I watch a whole lot of college ball and a little NFL. I almost hate to admit it but I'll watch rugby over either of them.

In my experience, few high school coaches are hardcore fans yelling and screaming at college stadiums on Saturday and living or dying on every win or loss. I think this is largely due to the fact that what happens on Friday is infinitely more important to us than what happens on Saturday, so we place our energy with our own teams.
I grew up an Alabama fan, but Alabama could lose every game until the end of time before I would accept a loss by one of my own teams.

There is a depressing "sameness" in CFB these days. Everybody is running similar stuff. The games all look alike.
Could say that about NFL too but they're doing it with the best athletes-players and there aren't the talent disparities that exist in CFB conferences.

College football got really bad and has been really bad since 2020 and the COVID year where they shut everything down, then decided to play giving teams only a week or two of practice before kickoff. Even the good teams looked sloppy. I am sure you can point to earlier where it was becoming a bad product, but that COVID year was the first time I REALLY noticed it and it just hasn't recovered. For the past few years I've been way more into the NFL for the first time ever.

A few years ago Saban was quoted as saying "The more our game is like the NFL, the better." He's gotten his wish, complete with Free Agency and endorsement money.

I will watch "select" college games. I'm sick of the similiar to everyone spread stuff. I'm a contrarian and I like contrarian teams. Loved Johnson at Georgia tech. Like the service academies but they are changing some. I will admit when I see a team that runs a lot, I tend to root for them. I really don't watch other sports much. I tend to watch action and sci fi movies more.

Ironic how many "I don't watch because I don't like the offenses" posts from coaches are made, but when fans don't want to watch certain offenses, they are idiots.

Fans would rather watch Junior lose in a Spread offense than win in a Double Wing, for example. Put another way, they'd prefer to see a long incomplete pass than a well-blocked and executed Power that gains six yards.

I don't like watching everyone run the same offenses because I like creativity and being different. Kinda like art fans would probably get sick of seeing a thousand of the same Mona Lisa every day.

Fans would rather watch Junior lose in a Spread offense than win in a Double Wing, for example. Put another way, they'd prefer to see a long incomplete pass than a well-blocked and executed Power that gains six yards. I honestly don't believe that is the case. Now what I DO believe is that most HS parents can't process the fact that Junior and his friend's best chance of winning might not be copying what Pat Mahomes does on Sundays. That is where the ridiculous complaints about an offense that is averaging a lot of points and winning games come from. They can't appreciate that players of a team may have more success in what they view as a boring, plodding offensive system as opposed to something else. But My comments weren't really about moms and dads, since the thread topic isn't about moms and dads but rather what does one watch for entertainment. And I find it ironic that many coaches don't watch certain levels of football because they don't find the offensive plays entertaining, but also are quick to chide other fans who want to see certain offensive play styles.

"A distressing sameness has taken over college football. As I watch the game as it's evolved, it makes me think the NFL has finally taken over. I always felt that college football's greatness was in its flexibility, its diversity of schemes and styles. Some teams ran four-man or five-man fronts on defense. The offenses would be wishbone, veer, the I, three-wides, two-tights. Every week was a potpourri of offenses and mindsets, things you had to adjust to as a coach. "Now, discouragingly, every football coach in America is running the exact same thing. There's not more than 10 percent variance between the offenses you see from week to week. With exception of Air Force, Navy, and Nebraska, the other 109 Division I schools are doing the one-back, three-wides offense. Tendencies may be different, but the alignments and plays are mostly the same. "Once upon a time, in the course of an 11-week season, you'd see two wishbones, two veers, an I triple-option...there might be six dramatically different packages you had to prepare for during a season. Now, it's all pass-and-catch, and Cover 2 or man coverage. It's so simple that even the fans fully understand what's going on. For the first time, fans can now shout stuff from the stands that they actually know." -- From Jim Walden's Tales from the Washington State Cougars Sideline (2004)

I once heard an NFL OL coach say that the reason why pro offenses are so similar is because of player movement between teams. Free agency and the salary cap mean that guys are bouncing from team to team. It's easier for new guys to fit in if you have similar offenses. The transfer portal means the same thing for college football.

nfl - the cowboys. i'm from texas, and started watching around 1964? a year or 2 before they played the packers in the nfl championship. been watching ever since. got spoiled by landry, i guess.
a little college fb if they still sometimes have the qb under center and run the ball some. grew up in the wishbone era, guess i can't help it. no interest in watching today's college bb on a fb field, with bb scores.
used to watch bb, both college and pro. celtics, with dave cowen, paul silas, jojo white, havilicek; and UH were always on tv (my brother went there), some 76'ers with dr. j. (he was fun to watch), some knicks, with....oh, crap, can't remember his name now, but he was good. then i had to coach it for 10 years. now i can't stand it. the only use for a bb now is for target practice.
if i need a nap, i'll turn on baseball or golf.
yes, i know. i'm old.

If it isn't our HS sports it is college sports that our former athletes are competing at.

I find myself watching football less and less each year. I personally am becoming less and less of a fan of being around football communities or environments in general unless it's one I'm coaching in. Definitely don't like going to games like I used to, and I really don't like going to bars or other folks' places to watch football. I prefer to just be at home if I'm watching.
I love all the "footballs" though: Soccer, Rugby Union, Aussie football...I'll often have those on before football unless it's Green Bay, which is my born and raised NFL team.

Looking at the poll the thing that I find interesting is that two guys said that they don't watch any sports. I can understand it. I probably watch maybe a total of 2 hours a week of sports. And a lot of that is as background noise. As I get older, I just don't really care anymore.
