I sure hope not, but...
I could see how maybe in 20-40 years it is much smaller or basically gone.
Here is what I'm scared of.
1. It basically becomes NFL jr. Nobody watches XFL or USFL b/c they are not nearly as talented or polished as the NFL. College has a niche b/c it is different. I went to school there or mom/dad did. Bands, traditions, rivalries, bowl games.
We have already lost some rivalries and paint is peeling off the bowl games at a rapid rate. Now with paying players and free agency, it could quickly be about the same as the NFL, just with much less talent. Maybe people watch because of tradition or to see who their NFL team may draft, but I could see viewership dropping substantially.
2. Colleges are getting so expensive and increasingly less required for jobs. Jordan Peterson is working on an online university that will get the price of a Bachelors to $4000. Surely others must be too. My guess is states create their own online u and make it really cheap for in staters. At some point soon, the amount of people going to college for partying into debt will drop off substantially and then their will be less students on campus and less people connected to the universities to raise up their families with a connection to good ole state u. Fan base could be greatly depleted by my grandkids generation.
Don't watch the NFL, love college football. Hope not, but wanted to get your thoughts.

There have always been 'clubs' for people to be a part of and do 'things'. I don't see colleges going away, just maybe a realignment back to when the sports were just part of the camaraderie of the experience and not the semi-pro league it has been for almost a hundred years.

I think which is most likely is the top talent goes to the xfl and usfl and average talent stays in college. That would require much more compliance for NIL
My thoughts- if you don’t wanna get a real education go play minor league football

Good point, have to think that NIL will pay players more than 2nd rate leagues. Plus the chances of both of them surviving is 0 and if 1 of them makes it more than a couple years it will be a miracle, especially with where the economy is and is going this year.
