We are looking to create our offensive goal boards for the 2023 season. Looking for some ideas of the goals others emphasize..... 3rd down conversion % Red zone efficiency # of Explosive plays (how do you define?) Anyone have data on which goals led directly to wins, such as <12% of all off offensive plays negative (sack, penalty, turnover, dropped pass, etc) = 92% win (came across that last night in some research)
Appreciate anyone willing to share....thx

Plenty of data out there surrounding turnover ratio and it's correlation to winning games.

Lots of previous threads on this topic that can help you. Might I also add that focusing on process goals instead of outcome goals will likely be more beneficial. Despite many coaches trying to be trendy/clever with goals and using the "new" goals such as the ones you listed over the "old" goals (yds rushing, yards passing, etc), AND the fact that the new goals are probably "better", they are still very often outcome goals and not process goals.

I’ve talked about this on here before, but there is a list of “Stats that win games” that I got from working for one of the winningest D2 coaches of the last decade. They are not solely related to the offense, because the data he had said there wasn’t a minimum number you needed that increased winning percentage, it was the differential between yours and your opponents that increased winning percentage.
For example, your odds of winning go up, not based on your 3rd down conversion %, but the differential between yours and your opponents.
The stats that win games are: Turnover differential 3rd down conversion % differential Points per red zone trip differential Special teams hidden yardage differential Explosive play differential (run of 12+ or pass of 16+) Pre-snap and post-play penalty differential
The coach I got this from had a whole presentation with all the data that I don’t have access to anymore, but the general idea is that the greater the differential is in your favor, the greater your chance of winning.

Remember that the only differential that truly matters is the scoring differential. I will say that I agree the factors you listed are going to be more linked to the scoring differential than the traditional "old school" type goals (which I always thought were foolish) such as yards rushing, and even --gasp--time of possession (which is better than yardage goals). One can just see logically why: Turnover diff- More possessions = more likely opportunities to score 3rd down conversions - If you are converting more 3rd downs than opponent, unless they are converting 4th downs (I would lump together to a 3rd/4th conversion rate) it is likely you are increasing the amount of opportunities you have to score relative to your opponent. Points per Red zone trip-- actually comparing a portion of points being scored seems fairly logical in evaluating what contributes to the scoring differential. Special teams hidden yards/ explosives/ and penalty yards..all relate to how far a team has to go to score-which will impact scoring differential. My biggest takeaway however has always been how useful is this information? In the history of football, has it ever been said "wait what? Numbers show that a positive 3rd down differential correlates well with winning? Oh then NOW I will try to convert these 3rd downs". I can see arguments for somethings, especially in 2023, when you can use this data to explain why you do certain things. "Specials teams are important. Look at the data. We play quality players on special teams!" But in general, how useful is all of the data mining

Am I the only one who on seeing the topic "Offensive Goal Boards" thought I'd stumbled into a basketball forum?
