This state senator should get a legislative participation trophy.

In most cases the high school diploma is a participation trophy

While I could get behind this bill in merit, this simply underlines the base fact that legislative sessions (and bills) are FAR too long and innocuous.
SC's session basically runs January - May, on top of the profiled bills that come down in November/December. The basic legislative week is Tuesday-Thursday, and most of the days are a stream of state championship teams getting recognized, Boy/Girl Scout troops marching through, campaign speeches/soliloquies, and glad handing. Almost all real legislation happens after Easter, with the veto work that come down in June.
Other than the committee work (maybe even with it), the session could run at most 2 months and be done.

And to think there almost was a real push to have the SC General Assembly take over high school sports about 20 years because a QB transferred to another school....

It didn’t quiet happen. But the NCHSAA had to make several concessions and give up some of its enforcement powers to prevent it from happening.
As a resident and employee of the State of NC. I can’t believe this is what we are worried about. Teacher pay is among with worst in the nation. Major industries are closing and moving out of the state. And we are worried about participation trophies. 🙄

We are in the performance stage of the death of Rome. Feeding Christians to the lions will commence next week.
That being said, we do need to do something about how we raise children in this country. We're starting to get our first "adults" at our place of business that were born post Y2K and holy {censored} we're {censored}.

We had a young kid come in wanting to get his foot in the door, and it was wild. He'd somehow managed to get us into a quagmire in Vietnam AND the middle east, overuse our finite resources to put us at the mercy of OPEC, and created a tax structure and economic incentive system that completely choked out the middle class for 2 entire generations, AND somehow found time to override all commonsense gun laws so police and citizens both live in a constant, lawless warzone. He did this all while convincing everybody that a trans kid who got a participation ribbon was the real enemy.
I, too, weep for our future.

The NC State legislature is a collection of clowns. They have, over the past couple of years, insisted on sticking their noses into areas they know nothing about in order to resolve some personal grievance. The only real policy they have as a group is to destroy public education as fast as possible.
