I know a PC/Mac laptop would be better but I cannot afford that right now. So I am looking at chromebook. Primary uses would be google docs/sheets/meet/slides, and Hudl.
Want a big screen. Touch screen is not make or break for me. Ports to stick an SD card to upload video would be a bonus.
Experience with this? Suggestions?

I used a chromebook to do Hudl stuff quite a bit a few years back and it was fine. Similar to any laptop, I'd recommend getting an external mouse to speed things up (touchpad always seems slow and less precise to me).
It's a google-made product so you won't have any issues with docs/sheets/meets/slides.
I agree that the smaller screen is a PITA but I believe the newer ones have bigger screens and better resolution.
Not sure about places to insert an SD card - the ones I have used in the past have been on the simple ned of the spectrum so they may have some with that option. If not, Amazon has adapters to convert it to USB, which all chromebooks should have.

What are the price disparities?

Our school has these for students to use and I had never clicked around on one until the other day when I forgot my laptop at home. It was actually very user friendly and simple. Seems like it would work fine for web browsing, watching Hudl etc. No office suite but can access Google Docs, Sheets, etc. Screen is smaller of course, but didn't have to strain to read anything. No HDMI port was the only negative I noticed. Looks like a big price difference vs. a conventional laptop. I'd definitely consider buying one.

My wife has a Chromebook. I hate it.
Primary reason? It's hard as hell for me to type anything on that tiny keyboard with flat keys with my hands and fingers. I spend over half my time re typing what I just wrote. Couple that with no Word or other programs I'm used to and I rarely use it. In fact, the only time I use it is to use the state's portal to apply for jobs.

Had one at my last district. They were issued to all the teachers and kids. Worked great for web based stuff!. Also, there aren’t any moving parts so very few things to worry about breaking or wearing out.

Define “can’t afford right now”. What are the price disparities? Aren't Chromebooks cheaper across the board than a PC or Mac laptop? Yes. But that’s because the Chromebook is not a PC, at least not in the traditional sense. The Chromebook is a cheap way to get on the Internet. It was designed specifically to work with Google Drive apps (Docs, Sheets, etc, etc). So, if you are already a Google Docs user and simply need a machine to access the Internet, check your email, visit websites, watch Netflix, etc, etc, the Chromebook is a good choice. However, if you do anything that requires software or a lot of processing power or hard drive storage, you won’t want a Chromebook.

I think the newer Chromebooks would suffice what is needed for the OP's description. Definitely get a stand alone mouse (plugs into the USB - a lot very cheap yet reliable options on Amazon).
As one poster mentioned above, an iPad is a great option as well. They can be a little more pricey than a Chromebook depending on what you buy but there are easy to use, can be used to film, work with Google Docs, and have accessories (attachable keyboard, mouse, etc.) that can be paired with them. There are some off-brand or non-Apple accessories that work well with them, so that should take some bite out of the sticker value too.

What I was looking to see was her w much greater was the price for the item you ideally want - would it be better to wait until you can purchase the item you really want rather than spending for an item you arent as happy with but can buy right now? How long would the wait be before you could purchase the item you prefer?

I bought a new Acer chromebook last summer. It has a 15.5" screen and even has a numeral pad in addition to the regular keyboard. I bought this to replace an 11.5" Acer chromebook that lasted 5 years. It was still going strong, but the thing about chromebooks is that they have a 5 year shelf life for updates. So once five years is up, the device will no longer receive security updates. It was still running like the day I bought it. I couldn't believe it. I would recommend the brand for sure.

Don't understand how any societal, economic, or political issues are at play here. I have worked in the public sector a long time, and have seen many expenditures that were not what was really beneficial but were made because thats all that fit in the budget. I was simply suggesting that it may be more beneficial to wait a while until the truly desired item could be purchased.
