Looking for things that aren't necessarily only football, and especially things that can be done in a classroom or gym. One of my favorites I stole from a basketball coach. He put kids in teams of four, each kid in the group had to assemble their own puzzle (so four puzzles per group). However, the pieces were mixed up, none of the kids had all the pieces they needed. The rule was you can't take any pieces, you could only give, and there was no talking allowed.
Clearly, teams that figured out that their job was to figure out what their teammates needed "won". Lesson about how being a good teammate makes the unit stronger, and how no one could actually win on their own.
What are some of your guys' favorites?

Last school I was at we did a competition everyday. We had a ton of different stuff. Either everyone participated or if only a few kids participated then those not participating had to wager on who would win the competition and if their team lost they had to do a couple of pushups or updowns.
I made up dozens of those competitions and tried to never use the same one twice in a month.
We used the time to teach them about not making excuses for losing, for supporting their teammates and to have fun.
We were on a bad stretch off football one year and stopped doing it for a couple weeks to use that time for football specific periods and it hurt more than it helped.
Examples:
Tug Of War
Tackle Bag Relay Race Split double team relay race Pass rush gauntlet 1 on 1s Deep Snap target shoot
Trivia on something we are trying to emphasize
Gatorade chug races when needing to hydration
Most had a football component but not all

I'm sure it's mostly just me lol, but I've always been kinda blah about team building activities, especially with today's generation. IMHO, for a lot of reasons, today's generation is a tough crowd, maybe toughest crowd coaches have ever coached...For the most part, in my view, team chemistry isn't something you can manufacture/force, it happens organically. The team chemistry is either there, or it isn't. I think the best team building is just reinforcing to them with how you talk to them, the idea that they are a brotherhood and to fight for each other. Same idea as the military or law enforcement (yes not everyone's favorite crowd in this country right now, but just thinking about the upside/positive aspect of a brotherhood).

Whenever someone says "team building exercise" I think of trust falls and dumb first day of school activities. Immediately ruins the concept for me.

We ordered some of those murder mystery in a box off Amazon and put the kids in groups of 4-5 and they had to solve the murder together while racing the other groups.
Kids had more fun than they thought and they had to work together, explain their thoughts and come to a group decision.
Prizes for 1st, 2nd, 3rd.

That's a great idea. And, I'm impressed; the kids didn't lose their minds. I've tried to play those with my family and it makes me angry.. Like "You Made Me Go Golfing Angry".

Let them bring their TVs and game systems to team camp and in between practices let them just hangout and play.

We helped build a habitat for humanity house one year - obviously not in school, but it was fun and the kids enjoyed it. I think it was like an 8 hour work day in the summer. We bought them lunch and kept a bunch of water/gatorade on hand.

That's awesome coach Yeah it was pretty cool, there were enough different tasks that needed to be done in the house that we'd change every hour or two which helped keep them interested. Lots of guys fighting over who got to work the nail gun.

AD-"Coach, your boys were at the volleyball game and really caused a ruckus...Some of the parents on the other team were upset" My response... "Good. That's what home-court advantage is. The added noise/pressure of the crowd made the other team uncomfortable. Tell Karen she can watch the stream if she doesn't want to attend the game in-person."
