Have a nose guard who on occasion is pretty good at swaping the center's snap. We were informed last night that this is illegal. Can anyone point me in the direction of the NFHS rule book where this rule is stated?

Can anyone point me in the direction of the NFHS rule book where this rule is stated? Not the rule book, but here’s a good explanation. blogs.usafootball.com/blog/2086/ask-the-official-can-defensive-linemen-steal-the-snap“Defensive players cannot go after the ball while the center is in a legal snap and it is still in his hands. The ball must leave the center’s hands as either a backward pass (shotgun QB or punter) or touch the hand of the quarterback. If the center and quarterback mishandle the snap, that’s a live ball and anyone can get it.”

Insanity from parents has driven a lot of guys out of it, and it’s not like anybody gets rich from doing this. At least, not legally…

Rule 7 Section 1 Art 6 b. Following the ready for play and after the snapper has placed his hand(s) on the ball, encroachment occurs if: b. A defensive player makes contact with the ball prior to the end of the snap

That was an interesting question, and the responses were informative. I played Center my sophomore year of high school and one game the nose-man assumed a somewhat squatted position with elbows flexed and fists at the nose of the ball, on every snap of the game he slugged my on the left side of my helmet. He had 5 15-yqrd penalties called on him. That was 1977, obviously I finished that game with possibly the worst headache of my life. For the last 4 years I have had severe neck pain just to the left of my cervical spine in the muscles. There is a constant golf-ball in that muscle that renowned physicians say is simply from stress, no cancer, no swollen lymph nodes moved where they shouldn't be. The shots they give do some good for a day, but never totally help for even that amount of time. I know my reply has nothing to do with the thread, but it goes to show what some coaches teach - and how officials even back then did not do a great job. BUT for sure there is an inadequate supply these days and those that are out there are terribly unqualified!!
