We have a bye this week. It is right smack in the middle of our region schedule. It falls in what is normally week 8 for our season. SC doesn't schedule bye weeks, but it does allow teams to schedule games during what is referred to as 'week zero' so you can have one.
Usually a school will have their bye in the middle of the year or right before they begin their region/conference schedule. We were just able to juggle the schedule because we have an odd number of teams in our region and get it late in the season.
So if you have a bye week, what do you work on during that week? Do you give the team any time off? Do you change anything?
We dialed back a bit, and shorten practice some. We mostly will work on us. No real game prep for upcoming opponents.
Monday
We took pictures for all 3 levels (variety, JV, frosh), then sent the sub varsity home and had a 45 minute film session by position (we didn't have our Monday morning positional meetings). Varsity had a team meeting while C/JV had their pictures done. We lost a pivotal game last week, but the Monday schedule wasn't changed, just the tone the team meeting.
Tuesday
We did our normal Monday schedule, just cut out a couple of periods; defensive team/show, D skelly, since we don't play anyone Friday. Added 5 minutes to O team (actually ran over about 10 minutes) and added a 2 minute drill to end up. All in all, we got finished about 35 minutes earlier than normal.
JV and Cteam scrimmaged for about 45 minutes, no game planning.
Wednesday
We will do our normal Tuesday redzone schedule, again we'll cut some time out here and there. We will really harp on redzone focus b/c we have sucked at it this year, both offensively and defensively.
JV/C teams will scrimmage again at the end.
Thursday
We will be off, but unless someone is in study hall, the varsity doesn't practice Thursdays every week. Also, we won't do our normal morning walk through.
