Keys to a successful offense
balance between 1. run and pass 2. tempo of plays 3. flow and misdirection 4. snap counts
adaptability 1. scratch where it itches/take what they are giving you
adjust on the run 1. can your players adjust to different looks, ideas during a game?

carry-over (from one personnel package to another - majority of plays can be run from more than one package)
that's the key to being multiple because it limits the teaching so to speak.

No question, Tog, snap counts and taking what they give you. Those are my two faves. And, self scouting your offense. Watching your own game films as though you were the upcoming team's defensive coodinator. As an OC, it's good to constantly try to break your own tendancies........

One play that you are known for, something the other guys must stop or its game over. one play that your team knows they can run any time, anywhere.

having something you hang you hat on is critical. to back that up, though, you better be able to execute it from a variety of sets & packages vs a multitude of defenses. our motto is "never let 'em run us out of it"........we are gonna' run the GT from the gun........we will always make sure to get this play called & run.......if they run us out of this play we are not nearly as successful.
what does this mean? make your bread & butter adaptable. vary the formations, vary the packages, vary the backfield actions, vary the ball carriers, vary the ways you "decoy" the play with your compliments to get them out of what they are doing to stop your bread & butter or at least change their attitude toward it enough to allow you to execute it. now, you can't go "hard-rock mining" and merely call it to call it because it's what you do, but it should be what the majority of your play-calls "spin off of" in an effort to move the ball. so, either find ways to execute it or exploit their over-playing it to get them back to more base defense .... if they switch you're back in business.....if they don't - and you have built in great complimentary schemes - then you may be ok as well.
