Yo! Can any of you guys tell me in your experience if a highschool physical has led to a kids life being saved? Seems like a one of these things that should be put in the scrap heap of history.

In the last 2 years we have had three kids kept out of play due to heart conditions exposed during physicals. One of them moved to be closer to medical services and the other 2 are still not cleared for physical activity- just talked to one doing his correspondence PE class...about drugs.
I don't know if their lives have been saved but they aren't doing sports.

I don’t know but around here they are not touching balls and demanding coughing anymore.
My son is 13 and I warned him the last two physicals that they may touch just testicles and ask him to make funny noises.
They haven’t and he thinks I am a weirdo now.

I can't speak to the one that moved all I know is it was serious enough to move the entire family. The one said he had always indicated a heart murmur but in the last physical it was now alarming to the doc and hasn't been cleared....hasn't stopped him from doing rodeo. The third one said that he just had an irregular heartbeat and that he was referred to a specialist and that he had an enlarged heart. He says he is now a lover and not an athlete. |

Hopefully an irregular heartbeat would be caught. That's one of the things they are looking for in a physical.

We have had heart issues detected a couple of times. But it really depends on where they go for the physical and how in depth it is.

Last physical I had pre employment at a Dr's office, a 50/60 year old woman gently caressed/fondled my testicles to the point I felt a little violated. No real point in this story, just felt like sharing. |
