As a staff we have talked about how hard we are on the kids this time of year. We are really hammering everything from the time it takes to get down the hill to the weightroom, to how we stretch, lifting technique, to the way we call it up. We are doing character/life talks once a week as well. We have done things the same way each off season and have been very successful but we feel like this is a different group of kids we have now.
We want to start incoroporating some fun stuff/things to reward the kids that are doing everything right because we know the keep your nose to the grindstone/getting hammered everyday approach will get old.
Just looking for ideas/suggestions!

Give the guys who have reached a certain threshold of attendance/grades/etc. a day off of lifts and play Ultimate Football/Air Force Football or something like that. The guys who don't meet the threshold, can still lift if you have the manpower to still run the weight room, and even the guys who are being rewarded are getting some work in, but it doesn't feel like it to them.

Competitions are always fun and usually you can find a way to incorporate balance, speed/agility, strength into it. Just make sure you do different activities so its not just races that benefit the fast kids. Examples of stuff we did... 1. Throwing contest. 2. Long Snapping Contest for distance. 3. Striding contest.. set up bags and they run through with only one foot allowed to land between bag. expand bag distance each round. 4. Ultimate Football/Frisbee 5. Med Ball Volleyball with goal post as net.

Punt, Pass, and Kick (and Long Snap) competition.
May find some candidates for Specialties you didn't know you had.

We just took the guys to the local elementary schools to read to them yesterday......I think our kids got as much out of it as the little kids. Smiles everywhere and several of our guys were talking about how much fun it was.

No fair catch punt return drill.
Player with the worst off-season attendance has to field punts, but cannot signal for a fair catch.
The rest of the team gets to tackle him.

This will end up on twitter in a bad way when that kid gets his head knocked off and his mamas mad. But it sounds old school funny. When I was an offensive lineman in high school. One kid on our line was terrible and coaches questioned his effort so they put him at scout team qb one week. It was ugly by the end of the week the beating he took. It was nothing dangerous, but he had a better feeling of what it was like to be a qb on Friday night under pressure.

It is a 3YearLetterman joke from his book in a chapter about running off horrible youth players. Don’t run this drill fellas.

Some poor guy didn't see your second response and is running it after school today.

It has been quiet since SyrupGate a few years back.

Go play kickball one day. It will lighten things up and kids will have a blast.

They're smart and can see a loophole in their sleep. No fair catch? Hell, they're not catching anything.

We also do little things during the season at the start of practice. 40 yard dash race where kids can challenge each other (it has to be a legit challenge, no fly guys challenging fat guys), we let linemen catch a punt and kids have to decide if he'll catch it or not (really cool to see skilled guys cheering on big dudes), etc.
Takes 5 minutes or less and breaks up the season grind.

We play a ton of dodgeball and basketball variations in the off-season. Every now and then we do gonzo workouts where we do like, 25 different arm exercises. In non-COVID times, we'd get into our wrestling room and do tumbling and combatives.
It's a cardinal rule in our program that we don't do anything football until after Spring Break.

Have them playing soccer, basketball, baseball, track, lacrosse...work to create a culture where your kids are excited to explore other athletic opportunities during their 4 years of school as opposed to grinding on football.
For those that don't, some good suggestions are here on this thread.
