Ummm, ya. I mean, doesn't everyone look for that? Mmm you'd think, but I think sometimes people lose sight of that, or don't fully appreciate the importance of that and driving it home...And, of course, plenty of people get way too caught in scheme (plays) and forget the players aspect... |

I used to have a box on my call sheet called "Plays for ______" and the best player's name was there.

This is why coaches chart ball carrier/pass target, how many carries/targets, and when.

I tried finding an article on Mt. Union in this regard, but nothing I found was really written from a coaching perspective or written in any detail. But, I've heard over the years that this is how they started their offseason offensive thinking: who are the players we need to get the ball, what formations put those players in favorable positions, and then what plays out of those formations do they run.
