So one of the things I've been thinking about lately is the way to maximize the amount of information I'm able to put into Hudl with respect to the amount of time that it takes to manually input the data. I know that a lot of guys are able to get Hudl Assist as big time saver (which would probably make a lot of this moot) but we aren't there right now.
Anyway I'm just looking for any tips anyone has on maximizing the amount of data you are able to put into Hudl without spending all of your time on Saturday just entering data.
One of the things I've been looking at is ways that I can minimize the amount of extra clicks that I'm having to do while entering data. For example, the first thing I'd get once we got the film was to immediately ODK it. One of the things I've noticed was that the amount of time for me to identify the opposing formation shell probably wasn't that much more than if it was ODK (especially when I got going and mis clicked a few and had to go back and fix them). So, what I do now is to tag the offensive formation first. Once that's done I go back and check all of formations and then tag "D" all at once, which takes me a matter of seconds.
Another thing I've started doing was when I was watching the film was to just tag the Blitz as "Y", instead of trying to immediately tag what type of blitz it is. Instead of being rewinding the film 2-3 times to make sure I got the naming right I mark the "Y" and move on watching the formation cutups. After I do that I filter for "Y" and fill in exactly what kind of blitz it is. I've found this goes a little faster and my blitz naming is much more consistent.
Lastly instead of filling out the yard line I created a custom column on field position. So when I'm going through and watching the formation cutups I only tag a field position if its outside of the open field (backed up, GL, RZ). Then at the end I just filter for all of the "no value" ones and then tag "Open" all at once, which saves me a few clicks.
Any tips or ideas you have about being more efficent with the Hudl data entry I'd love to hear them.

You should never ever do it by yourself. EVEN IF YOU DO, just dont do it. If you have to do there job, you dont need them. These first two are not just about film work Everybody who participates in your program on the non player side, jv, frosh, a, b teams, what have you, should participate be involved in film break down. Equally. EVERYBODY. Dont get me wrong, your better coaches better be doing the what gets you beat categories of film break down, whatever they are to you. Everybody who is involved in your building on the non player sideā¦or they shouldnt be there.
If you cant give it to your players, or dont trust your players with it, dont use it. Talking about columns. You have other columns, do it on your own time. All three of you need to be watching the film together, before and after input. No you cannot watch that film enough. There should be no comments that cannot be supported by film. Players or coach. Not a suggestion, not a comment, zip. If you allow war story, the golden age stuff, your meetings get awful long. If you have other things that need to be addressed, have another meeting and again that meeting is not a commentary on things or story time.

A couple of things: 1. Do you get an early exchange? If so, try and get some things done prior to the weekend. 2. Give the "busy" coaches or coaches with family responsibilities the base breakdown columns (ODK, D&D, Yard line, Play type, etc.) 3. Utilize middle school coaches 4. Utilize student managers or students 5. Find a Way
I've been guilty of doing all of offense base breakdowns, special teams and defense for our games and the majority of opponent film because I like to work, contribute, and help others who maybe have other obligations or need time to just watch the film (coordinator). This is not the right way to do things. I agree you need to get as many people involved as possible. I'm a time/schedule type guy and need to realize everyone is not on my schedule or see the value therefore, I just do it myself. Be creative and find those that want to be involved even your injured guys.
