Hudl playbook is "free" so to speak as part of the package. But if I wanted to branch out and use something else is it worth it? Just Play Solutions makes some nice drawings and has some nice features but at $20 month for a basic subscription that's $240+ a year depending on the features and what you use it for. Trying to decide if that is worth it. What are others opinions?

What's cool with powerpoint too is that with a little practice and work, you can actually create animations that have your Xs and Os move on the playsheet....You can even time them, so you have one pass rusher going first and another going second in stunts, a player going in motion before the rest of the players move, etc...Dont know if it's super useful, but could have niche applications...

I use PowerPoint, like it and agree with the above comments. I think it's easy to use, but there are a few things to learn that make PowerPoint life a bit easier. Go to: www.proquickdraw.com/visioandpowerpointThere are a couple of videos on using PowerPoint for football. IMHO, the videos are really good and extremely helpful. I re-watch them a bunch. The video shows how to make everything you need and customize it.

It's expensive up front but it doesn't expire, has a small footprint, and can he copied for all of the coaches to use.

I like playmaker. Bought it for $200, which can seem like a lot up front, but I've been using it for over 12 years. I will copy and paste to Word when making my playbooks.

I'm considering going with playmaker pro. It seems expensive at first but honestly it seems good because: you keep it regardless of where you coach and if you use it for years you've only paid for it once. It isn't subscription-based. It also seems like something that you don't need to update.

I'm currently using a combination of Microsoft Vizio($200 one time payment) and Microsoft powerpoint. Both have huge advantages, and both have cons. That being said the only perfect systems are the collegiate professional level programs that are literally thousands of $$$(XOS, Drangonfly, etc.)

For Playmaker Pro, it seems to be $199 through CompuSports but if you do it through the app store on MAC its $109. Anyone know if there's a difference between the versions?

PowerPoint? I've heard a ton of positives of Visio over PPT due to the stencils and drawing ease, but not much in the way of negatives.

The negatives aren't many but I have found that drawing formations is much easier/better in Powerpoint. With the version I have 2016(I think) you can actually place the powerpoint into the Visio document.
Another problem I've ran into is that the text is very sensitive. For example if you want to make 1 word bold DON'T click the Bold button, highlight the word and then use control+B. If you want to capitalize a word or two it's the same way.
The other negative is only when you're first starting, and that is the challenge of finding all of the lines you want/need in order to draw up your play diagrams. However once you find them it gets easier to keep them around.
THose are the biggest negatives I have found.. way more positives for Visio than negatives.
The other negative is that MOST people do not operate Visio, so if you're going to be giving a presentation make sure you have your computer, OR save a PDF so that you can pull it up anywhere anytime.
