Have reasonable and meaningful clearly stated standards that you will actually enforce and hold everyone accountable too
be a decent and respectful man and expect your players and your assistant coaches to act the same.
I think that covers the culture stuff without it becoming fake or feeling like something you’re pushing just for social media likes

Just to put that out there We have found significant value in all these resources (Randy Jackson, Kenny Simpson, Tim and Brian Kight, etc.). Obviously I don't follow everything they do and say as gospel, but I think you're short changing yourself if you don't review their resources with an open mind.

Check out Coach Joe Salas on YouTube, he has a ton of episodes focusing on culture. He has had a crap ton of HS coaches on there, lot of good stuff. Nothing earth-shattering, just pieces you can put together, just like at clinics. He has even had Mike Leach and Hal Mumme on there. How many is "a ton" of episodes? How many HS coaches in a "crap ton"? Sorry, being a former English teacher vague expressions like that are a pet peeve. Please stick to the OP. Thanks

We don't need to bash guys on the board. I agree with the statement above, that you take what is useful and discard the rest.

Coach Moore at Masillon has been mentioned by another poster on here. One of his lieutenants was DCOhio, before he unfortunately got fired, I believe for comments he made on this board and were taken out of context. (which is why I presume he isn't on this board anymore)
The one thing I learned from him is for a winning culture to be engrained, is that you can not allow any bullchit to happen. For me, he is the opposite of the row your boat type of coaches, yet he seems to have the talent for not putting up with any {censored} and being as direct and to the point as possible. A trait I wish I had more of.

One of the best culture resources out there is a book called "Make The Big Time Where You Are" by Frosty Westering. It's out of print but still available for about 50-60 bucks. There's a couple of youtube videos of Coach Westering giving a clinic on his ideas as well. That is a good book.

Have heard lots of people define culture as a set of behaviors.
So find the people near you whose players exhibit the behaviors you want. Then ask them how they get the players to do those things.
Sometimes when you hear a stranger from far away talk about culture, it is hard to evaluate if what they are saying actually works because you have never seen any of their players or their behaviors.

A trait I wish I had more of. Its classroom management Kids have to know there are consequences and you will follow through. Yelling and screaming at kids is your loss. Lecturing them? Your loss. Have consequences and be firm with them. And I am going to say it again, reps, playing time MATTER. Then football isnt a right. College guys do not want nor will they take the jack ass. But they will allowed to destroy your football team? No chance.

I don't know either of these guys personally, but I did get stuff out of their books that was helpful. As far as what they do in their personal lives or who they piss off, I don care thats their personal lives. I'm not touting them as saviors, just someone who had some useful information in books or podcasts.

One of the things I think coaches have to learn is every bunch of players is different. Just because the guys last year were around a bunch of good leaders the year before doesn't mean jack. It really doesn't. Every year you have to be able to pick and choose what your team needs. I had a group of guys a decade ago who didn't need coaches to lead. I mean they handled everything. There were no issues. Everyone got a long....and they won. The following year after they left I figured "oh they showed next year's seniors how to...." NOPE. Then a couple years later with a totally different crew we went to state, and it was the hardest year ever. Theese guys did not get along. We tried everything. The best thing for them was they understood that if they could get along for a couple hours a day Monday - Friday they could win a lot of games. But there was nothing we could have done to fix that locker room. Winning kept those guys together. So there was nothing in the culture handbook that the first group needed to hear from us. There was nothing in the culture handbook the last group I mentioned would have listened to.
Now here is one thing I think did help once. Following that great W/L season which was a ***** to handle personality wise, I began assigning lockers. I didn't let the guys be cliquy in the locker room. I broke up the classes. I also put leaders by guys who needed leaders by them. I put two of our biggest pricks by the door to the locker room so they could monitor who was coming in late and remind guys to get their butts out to practice. Stuff like that. I do think that helped.
Ultimately you can't out culture police their parents. If their parents are on board then you have an easier time. If the parents have a bad culture (or if the wrong parents have a bad culture) than....well good luck.
