What the hell? I played HS ball back in the 60's and that's the craziest chit that I've ever seen.

The sort of thing the phrase, "Play stupid game, win stupid prize," was made to apply to.

Yeah piece of s**t coaches 100%
Saw this awhile ago and read comments. It's sad to see that there are people out there who think this is okay and builds toughness. And then they will be the same people who can't figure out why kids aren't playing anymore.

You see this sort of thing posted on twitter fairly regularly. There is often times inadequate training and inadequate attention being paid to what is going on in some places. This is horrendous. As said, fire 'em and sue 'em. Here's what's even worse here from what it appears. They've got a fat kid who's probably bullied regularly---so they add to it. The kid didn't give up the first few times he was hit, he got up and kept coming back. This is a kid who could be put in a weight room as he develops and could be worked with to make an offensive lineman some day. However, that takes work, patience and real coaching on the part of the coaches--and these clowns aren't up for that.
I played in the 60s as well. Never saw anything like this even then. I will say, however, that I worked for a HC who was nearly this bad about that sort of thing. Loved Bull in the Ring. One August, he did an extended Bull in the ring session. He put our best athlete (a soph at the time) in the middle and sent kids from two different sides at him at the same time. He missed 9 games as a result. Missed the playoffs by a foot that year. Two years later, the kid is a high school All American. We would have been our best player as a soph. I nearly lost my mind that day. I told him his team, do as he pleased, but if he did that nonsense again he'd be looking for another assistant because I wasn't going to be a party to it.

I think you bring up a good point that this stuff pops up regularly. What kind of accountability, if any, do you guys think the organizations that approve these guys to work with kids should be held to?

Definitely needs to be more accountability and more scrutiny of who they let coach....they were even bold enough to televise some of this nonsense at one time. There certainly needs to be more emphasis on training. But despite anything new coming, those people in charge of these "coaches" are legally liable. If there is a lawsuit, it's going to include them.
