So I am visiting “home” and friends. A particular in the area, I believe, one of the front runners to win the state championship. I was shown the scouting report for them, not a huge offense, not revolutionary, in fact behind the time in many cases. Not a lot of plays. The thing was they ran the plays they had 50/50 in almost everyway. Mof? RH? LH? Literally perfect in the number of times a play was to each. L/R? 50/50. Run v. Run? 50/50. pass v. Pass? 50/50. run v. Pass? 50/50 And every area was like that. And if wasnt 50/50 due to odd numbers, it was but a play or 2.
It was crazy at first. But with hudl, its really not that hard or scientific, but the fact they are tracking it like that? YOWSER!!!

We had a coach like that a few years back in our region/conference, middle of the pack team but dang did they make you have to work. They never got more that 55/45 in ANY category. Plus he'd do the surprise onside at anytime and go for it on 4th a bunch (in manageable D&Ds). Just a PITA. He got canned and when he left I called him up and asked how in the Hades did he cut so clean down the middle. He said it was all self scouting. He worried about that than anything. |

Out old time ball coach use to seld scout after and during the game. He would chart right/left. Field and boundary
