Anyone use a Tablet or CoachPad to show kids scout offensive plays? Looking at getting two Amazon Fires ($120 each) and upload the PDF script from Hudl. Anyone have any experience with this? Looking for flexibility of having multiple scripts ready to go. Plus no more printing paper and organizing into binder.

How would the rain affect it? That is my first thought.

How would the rain affect it? That is my first thought. Same way it would on game night with Hudl Sideline I would think. We toss ours into ziplock bags and are good to go.

We did for a few years when I was at another school. I still made a script and the coach that ran the scout offense just swiped to the next play. I didn't have to put the cards in order so it saved me time. If we wanted to flip some cards or wanted to run some cards multiple times, we didn't have to print extra. We also didn't have to print extra if we wanted to use two huddles.

We do this for our defensive scout cards. Easier than having to print them all and hand draw them.
Never used it in in-climate weather, though.

We use our IPads. Use them with HUDL Sideline on Fridays and during the week we use them for scout cards. Big benefits for us is we can color coordinate easy which helps kids see what they are supposed to do. Also being able to move offensive plays day to day vs the defensive calls we will be given them is a huge time saver. Once calls and formations are in HUDL they will auto pop up for you which makes ease of changing looks at a touch of a button. You can also rearrange the order of calls lots easier day to day than physically pulling out cards from notebook, re-drawing against a different look and putting in different location. #1 Reason to do it- Big time saver, with ease of showing and moving different looks around easier. I definitely recommend it.

Weather hasn't been a huge problem this year, but I am going to buy a plastic cover that you can vacuum tight and use in the rain. I am also going to get a larger I-Pad to use during scout.

I guess it is a 9" going to a 12". My biggest problem is remembering I put it down some where during practice.

We have the managers or INJ reserve guys keep up with I-pads during practice. I also have their location shared with my personal phone so if they ever get lost I can locate them as well. I can see where some still like drawing plays out, just like when DSV, HUDL and all the other computer driven scouting systems came out there were some that still preferred putting it down on paper. I'm not saying it's better, I'm saying I think it's better for us cause of the time it saves us with what we like to do.

The thing that eventually was a problem was COLD. In PA in December we had a few days of sub 30 degree temperatures. iPad battery went dead. Now that iPad has a battery life of a few minutes. I have gone back to a binder with printed cards. Not sure I have the budget for a new iPad every time it got cold. We have practiced until thanksgiving for a while. If we were done by November 15, I don't think it would be an issue

Just use your phone and do pods. We just use Hudl Practice Scripts.
One coach shows the o line. If your scout team QB is a coach, he shows the RB's. If not, the coach shows the QB and RB's. Have one coach on the left for the left receivers. One on the right for the right receivers.
If you don't have that many coaches, let a kid show the other kids.
Oh, and generally you don't even have to show it. On the right, you tell the dude to run a fade or stalk or slant, etc. Or two the 2/3 receivers whatever. You can always show also. The line coach just says inside zone right. If they need to see it, ok also.

Severe cold temps have not really been tested with this method on our end, we have had cold days, but not freezing days. I guess, if that occasion ever comes up, then I would print off the sheets and put them in binders. But until then we will just continue this method to save time throughout the week.

We printed a card with 8 plays on it in color and gave it to each skill position... they never huddled... coach would call out a number... the coach would show the OL the play on a big card. We consistently got 16 plays done in 10 minutes. I like the tablet idea too if you can have multiples.... Also helped tempo if we were playing a no huddle team.

Do you use the same card with 8 plays the whole week or do the 8 plays change each day?

Do you use the same card with 8 plays the whole week or do the 8 plays change each day? We actually do 16 plays... 8 on each side... we print them off of hudl scripts... It is the same plays all week... we can change the order... and we add 4 or 5 others on our wed or thurs... Included in the script are the other teams 3 best plays in both directions (thats 6), those 3 in another formation (usually 3), top 3 passes(3 plays), best pass the other way(1 play), and then 3 plays that we think they will try to hurt us with that were not top 3 in scout. Thats total of 16. I understand why some want to change up the script to cover more of the other teams plas, but we feel if we get good against the best 3 we are better off than seeing more at less reps.
