It seems like just about every weekend, DURING the season no less, the board goes almost completely dead...Seems like folks would have less time during the game week than they would on the weekends, and yet that is when most of the discussion happens. And, especially with changing attitudes in recent years in HS football about grinding the whole weekend, and the rise of zoom and other video meeting services making it easier for coaches to meet remotely instead of having to go into the office...

Working remotely is still working. Plus, some staffs still meet. I wouldn't feel comfortable on a staff that didn't meet. Hopefully, if the guys do have free time they're finding better uses for it than looking at the computer.

It seems like alot of the posts are usually pertaining to asking for help "what would you do vs this...?" or posts about things that either happen during the week or are reported on during the week.

I suspect guys are either working on football during the weekends or watching CFB-NFL.
I know if I was still coaching I would be doing the former.

You mentioned not looking at the computer, I certainly wouldnt expect people to just sit around their computer all day on Coach Huey, but it just goes almost completely dead. And, as I said, it seems like if people were gonna be on here at all during the season, it would be the weekend because it's not like most coaches have a lot of free time during the game week....And yet, it's the complete opposite...

Yeah but then shouldnt they be even busier with football DURING the game week? And yet most of the posting that takes place on here during the season is during the game week...

Yeah but then shouldnt they be even busier with football DURING the game week? And yet most of the posting that takes place on here during the season is during the game week... It is a good question – I wonder how many of the posts made during the week are by teachers wasting taxpayer dollars during class posting on Huey. Lol

I would suggest that if coaches are posting Xs and Os questions on here during game weeks they are not wasting "taxpayer dollars" but in fact trying to find answers to help them earn them.
Thus one of the the purposes of this board.

I've always been a 'work first play later' type person, so maybe I am different, but I find the weekends to be far more busier during the season than the week. Friday is game, then post game breakdown and stats. Saturday is film breakdown with the players then prep for next week: breakdown opponent film, scouting, tendencies, scouting reports, game plans, etc. But once thats done, then a lot of the hay is already in the barn. Sure you are at practice during the week, but if you get the work done on the weekend then there is no extra work you need to do during the week. Come 5:45 (or whenever practice ends) I don't have any extra work, because the work is already done on the weekend.

I didn't say it was dead, period, just that it goes dead on the weekends during season 😄 I conveyed that poorly. What I meant was that since the board currently did not have much football talk, I would further develop my comments that taxpayers aren't paying coaches to be on Huey during Algebra I.

Why is it dead on the weekend?
I would say because most of us are HS coaches who were up until the wee hours of the morning after Friday night’s game getting laundry in the washer, so on Saturdays we’re trying to get what sleep we can, then scrape together some precious family time while spending a big part of the day getting film breakdown done in time for the big Sunday game plan meeting.
Or we’re just, you know, watching football games and enjoying our days off.
For the few of us on here who are coaching CFB, I think the answer should be even more obvious..

I remember I would be on here years ago using the search function to see what play I should install for that week.

That I understand. I guess I am in the minority here, but if choosing between watching college football and spending time learning on coach huey, i'd rather do the latter. For one thing, the college game is not exceedingly applicable to the HS game (there are plenty of coaches on here who will be quick to tell you that), and two, I am nowhere near the knowledge level of someone like yourself, so I can learn waaaaaay more on the HS game, offense, defense, and special teams, spending time on huey than watching power 5 football... No argument there

For me the weekend is family time, relax time, etc.
I have the app on my phone but seldom look at it unless I'm following a discussion that I'm really interested in. Otherwise it waits until I'm back in the classroom Monday and the students have independent work time.

Personally, the way my school schedule worked out this year, I have an almost two hour break in the middle of the day between an advisory period, lunch, and then my prep all consecutively. So, that's when I do most of my Coachhuey time. When I'm at home on the weekends, I can find plenty to do that doesn't involve my computer or as others mentioned, I'm actually watching games on TV.

Personally I'm tagging film on Saturdays and coming up with a gameplan. I might check a few old threads if I remember something, otherwise I won't post often. Saturday we're still working on the gameplan, making scout cards, and meeting as a staff on Zoom. Same thing was Saturday, I might look something up but I typically won't post. These things don't take all weekend, but obviously there are other things that need to be done outside of football.
