Our team colors are red and white, so I normally wear a black coaches pullover as the color scheme goes with ours and it makes me stand out for sending in defensive signals on the sideline. Players can find me quickly as I'm the only guy in black. Well our illustrious AD bought us black coaching shirts this year! Needless to say I'm a bit PO'ed at the matter, but what can you do? Do any of you guys wear anything on the sideline to make you stand out for the players? I thought about looking for a high visibility hat or something of that nature. A hat is pretty small, so I was wondering if a high viz one would stand out on the sideline among all the chaos.

I'd go with red or white top - opposite the game jerseys each week Also nice neon shoes helps and aren't very conspicuous

Staff in black, team in red or white, and you wear the opposite (red or white)

Our signal caller in high school wore yellow reef diving gloves.

Put a WHITE sleeve on your left forearm. Wrist to elbow.
Put your left arm high in the air and wave it left to right.
The guys on the field will see it. Send in your signal(s).
You can also use the left arm sleeve to delineate left or right for their alignments...however you want.

Completely unhelpful, but this different color thing is a pretty recent (last decade or so) phenomenon isn't it?
Some college games look like a rainbow vomited on the sideline nowadays.

I'll bet that after the 1st game (or at least with experienced players) all the players will know where you like to stand on the sideline. They will be looking more for that spot than that color. Or you could do like some above mentioned... find an interesting feature to stand out. What is your mascot? COWBOYS?VIKINGS?GAMECOCKS?MUSTANGS?BEARS?

Wear opposite the team jersey like others have said, as long as it's a different color than the other coaches. I try and wear a different color than most people, but one or two coaches usually end up with the same color. You can go on the field to make the call so the players will still find you.

Why is the AD buying coaching shirts for the football staff? As HC that was always my province. Just stand directly across from player receiving signals or at end of Team Box when ball is inside 25. If you feel the need wear a shirt or jacket with color opposite of jerseys players are wearing. As larrymoe implied the lengths some college teams go to with signalers wearing colors other than team's and even scrimmage vests (players signaling) are unnecessary and occasionally silly.

You can go on the field to make the call so the players will still find you. I got a penalty for that on Friday. There was a penalty and they hadn't even started marking it off, I was 3 steps on the field giving a signal and saying something to the FS and they threw a flag for it. I was baffled.

I worked at a school whose colors were green and white, signalers just wore a red hat. We ordered a couple with the school logo on them. We had green and white staff shirts and wore opposite what the players were wearing, so finding the only white shirt with a red hat was pretty easy when the whole sideline was green.
At my current school I'm usually the only thing wearing white on the sideline for home games. Our other signaler will wear obnoxiously colored polos, which I haven't quite bought into.
And there's also the approach of just being back away from the rest of the team. Our DC in college would be 30 yards behind the play and yelling so he was pretty hard to miss.

Then just be 3 yards onto the field every play and have your own personal get back coach. That should do the trick.

I've never experienced kids not being able to find me on a sideline. Coached from 1A to 5A and never had a problem. Also never dressed like a rainbow brite.
To each their own I guess.

If that happened around here, I'd have a flag every play. I make the call or say what I have to, and I get off the field. Most refs don't have an issue. If they say something once, I'll talk to them and then they'll typically let me on the field as long as I quickly get back to the sideline. Other coaches on our staff have said I've been as far out as the hash when the ball was snapped, but I don't believe them.

In light of him saying couple years ago "If players get paid, I'll quit" (since some will be now with NIL) - I don't disagree. Just wondering though, Why do you say that?

The amount of BS that he pumps into his "image" and then to watch him on the sideline act the complete opposite is truly tool worthy.

Oh yes....the head of officials sent something out with this and about 4 other things for them to look for on the sidelines---you know, so they can not watch what's happening on the field. Their answer is "we don't like it but we have to or we won't get playoff games"....yep, that's what we want, guys calling playoff games who are watching the sidelines more than the field

I have never been anywhere that kids couldnât find the coach.
Establish where you will be located and let them know. If they canât figure it out, call it from there at practice a couple days. If they still can figure it out you got bigger problems than shirt colors.
