Way back when we played our JV (grades 8-10) games on Thursdays at 4 p.m. The district I'm involved with plays on Wednesday at 6 pm. A neighboring league plays their JV games on Mondays at 6 pm

Our JV usually plays on Monday unless it's someone outside of our conference, which is usually only one or two games each season at the most.

Our JV plays... 1 Thursday game, 1 Wednesday game, 1 Saturday game, and the rest on Monday..
Our state moved to allow 5 quarters of play for any player from previous 4 2 years ago. Prior to that all schools pretty much played the day before the Varsity (Thursday) since that move some leagues like our own have started to play the JV games after but most haven't creating these inconsistent schedules. With dwindling participation I think in time most will end up on Saturday or Monday.

The norm in my area is the day before the varsity game.
Freshmen - 4:30 JV - immediately following freshmen
When I was a kid our school's stadium didn't have lights so for the second half of the season (when it starts getting dark earlier) JV would play immediately prior to the varsity so 4:30 friday then varsity kicks off at 7:00.
We played those games in a stadium that DID have lights, which we rented out from a neighboring district.

Our JV is supposed to play Mondays...but due to numbers we've combined our Friday night freshmen games into fresh/soph games. Sophomores only play in those if there is no chance of them getting any varsity time, however.

Having Sub-Varsity games on Saturdays would not be good idea around here. Hard enough to get coaches as it is without them not getting at least one day off a week (assuming staff does work on Sundays either together or virtually).
During my career we had to finish some games on Saturdays due to weather. Talk about a good way to screw up your weekend.

Coached in Ohio and Kentucky: JV games have always been on Saturday around 10am. Frosh Thursday 6pm. In 23 years, I have only seen a JV game on another day (Monday) once.

Washington state
Everywhere I've been here is JV - Monday Frosh/C-team - Thursday
But at our league coaches meeting last night they were asking for volunteers to move varsity games to Thursday because of ref shortages, which would mean Frosh/C will probably be bumped around as well.

My first coaching job--which goes back to 2002-2004--we did varsity games Friday night, freshmen games Saturday morning at 10, and then JV Monday night at 6. I was a freshmen coach, so the saving grace was I didn't really have any varsity planning to be responsible for on Sundays. But, man, it still made for a long weekend...

its always been a mix of Mondays and Thursdays, sometimes both in one week but this season is all Mondays. Times vary as sometimes the Middle School plays before the JV

I've always been a fan of Monday playing the team you played the previous Friday. However, where I'm at it Thursday with it own separate schedule.

Here JV lines up right before Varsity. Fortuantly we have field turf or i'm sure the field would be getting pretty chewed up. I've been at a school where JV played on Thursday. I've also been at a school where JV played Friday but played at the Home of the Varsity Visiting school.

Our HC asked us JV guys a few years back about playing Saturdays so teams could 5 quarter. Bottom line is I cannot consistently coach on Saturday. We now play one a head for those 5 quarter teams and I can figure that out. No way I can do it 9 weeks. Same with the rest of the staff.
