Is there any difference? The the Oilers and Lions know something years ago?
I'm a Packer fan, a team that was and is winning without much running game but now with 5 talented WRs...I can't tell if they are basically running spread or Run 'n Shoot.
Is it Shotgun vs. under center and thats it?
I dunno...why aren't more teams in the NFL running the Spread?

Well the Spread is a more general term. The run & shoot is a form of the spread. To simplify it think of a family tree and the Spread being the title. All the branches are different types of spread offenses.
Almost every team in the NFL runs some sort of Spread offense.

The spread is less filling and the run-n-shoot tastes great.

Spread is an alignment without a TE or a one back look. The run and shoot is an offense like Hawaii or Texas Tech. It is a pass happy O that will run the ball to keep you honest.
What teams do from the spread will vary. Some teams are a Zone based team under center which is more run based with 3 step passing game. Others are the shotgun option or zone read that is still run based with the 3 step game. Others are shotgun throw first and run some of the zone read stuff. And then you have the run and shoot guys which is really pass till no end and then run it some.

Run and Shoot (Hawai'i from the gun, Portland State under center) and Air Raid (Texas Tech, New Mexico State, Troy State, Georgia Southern - sort of) are, as two examples, different systems of spread football.
"Spread" is a generic term for 3 or more WR's in an offensive system, either under center or from the gun (or even Pistol...)

Some Spread teams are run and shoot, some run and shoot teams are spread. therefore are all run and shoot teams spread?
If someone throws a pass and their are no receivers will it be caught?
If you built a stadium with all points pointing south and a Bear came, what City would it be from?
Been working on the new playbook all day. Sorry

Now, we are all spread now. This is a testament to the influence of the various "spreads": the one-back, the R&S, even the double-wing, etc. But again, I reiterate, we are all spread now.

The Spread is more of a philosophy in that they will spread the field sideline to sideline using multiple WR sets. The Run N Shoot has the same basic philosophy BUT the main differnce between basic spread teams to the Run N Shoot is the pass concepts, most "spread" teams run either a combo of concepts they like or feel work the Run N Shoot uses a base set of concepts i.e. Choice, Hook, Read, Go, Switch, Streak, and Slide those are just the basic ones that most run n shoot teams run. Some other big differences are that the Run N Shoot's routes in there concepts change with each coverage some Run N Shoot coaches use a ryhm to teach there WR how to read the coverage " he STAY i GO, he GO i STAY, he LEFT i RIGHT, he RIGHT i LEFT " I would assume most "spread" teams dont do this with there WR's.

Run and Shoot is an offense just like the DW, Wing T, and Veer. Not all teams that line up in a Wing T run a wing t offense. Spread is not an offense but more a catergory of formations. The run and shoot is a read and adjust system. Each reciever had a route that would change due to a coverage family. Texas Tech under Leach is NOT a Run and Shoot team. The Lions, Oilers and Falcons all ran the Run and Shoot at sometime.
Like others have said spread means more today 3+ WRs no matter if you are a run or pass team.
