I was just sitting here thinking about this year. We had a change over leading into last year before the Wuhuflu hit with a new HC and had some staff roll over. So I go to low man on the totem pole for my position group, no biggie so I kind of sit back and listen and learn.
Anyhooo. early this summer the other DB coach when starting to work Indy drills with the middle school/Freshman group, bring the kids up before we start one day. He says, "Okay today here is the expectation; when you get to front of the line and before you do your rep, you yell out your name".
I haven't struggle to remember any of those youngsters names yet.

I am awful at names now days, didn't used to be. What happened to Helmut tape? We had our 1st scrimmage versus a mostly established staff.... I heard lots of "HEY #54.... HEY #18"

We used to have the guys grab an old T-shirt and put their last name on both the front and the back.
I kept a Sharpie with me in case a kid showed up for practice in an unmarked shirt.
By the end of Spring, we usually had them ID'd.
