I know there's the Poca Dots in West Virginia. And a school in Illinois (I don't know if it's around anymore) is/was the Wooden Shoes. Here in Virignia we have the Flying Flucos (short for Fluvanna County where they must do lot of flying), and the Royal Tigers of Central High School in King & Queen. There was also once the Newport News Typhoon.

There’s a team in my district, Cox High School. Now it doesn’t apply to their football team, but the boys and girls soccer teams can’t go by “Cox Soccer”. My wife tells me their swim motto one year was go in hard come out wet.

Tennessee has the Chattanooga Central “Purple Pounders.”
It makes lists of goofy/worst nicknames in sports a lot.
Then there are the Karns “Beavers” in Knox County, which isn’t so bad… until they play the Cocke County “Fighting Cocks.”
The announcers wouldn’t even call them “Cocks” when I’ve coached against them. They call them “Big Red” instead because their colors are black and red. I guess they feel like it helps avoid cheers of “Beat those Cocks!” from the student section, but they still get those at each game.

Played in college with a kid from Savanah Georgia whose HS nickname was the Atom Smashers. I thought that was pretty cool.

A buddy of mine teaches in a very remote part of Alaska that is notable for most of the population being of mixed native and white heritage.
They are known as the Aniak Halfbreeds, and their school logo is a native holding a speer and a white man with a rifle. They're very proud of this.

We have a team in our area up in the mountains called the Wildfires. They've had to cancel games because of actual wildfires. Yes, they're in California. I coached for The Thundering Herd.

A team in Germany is/ was called Magdeburg Virgin Guards. Also, there are the Frankfurt Red Cocks.
On a sidenote, since not all grammar rules applied properly, we also had Leihgestern Lightnings and Kaiserslautern Pikes.

Haven’t seen my Michigan brethren chime in yet. My favorites are the Dearborn Dough Boys and the Fordson Tractors. Both of those schools are in the same town. Some solid names there.

My all-time favorite R.B. Worthy High School was located in Saltville VA, the Shakers. Indiana takes the cake as the state with the best mascots imo. Seems like they have a lot of small schools, many with unique mascots en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_high_schools_in_Indiana

Illinois seems to have the best. Illinois has also has a few schools that have dropped nicknames. Previous mentioned Pekin (go look up that online) Lemont high school was the Injuns has changed and a few Redskins are gone, but not surprisingly at least one has kept it. But my favorites are the Bunnies and the Appleknockers.
