Used to coach against a school that only had stands on one side of their homefield; because on the opposite side of the field, less than 15 yards away from the sideline was an active train track. There was a fence between the tracks and the field, but there was only enough room on that sideline for the home team. About 2 or 3 times a game a train would go barreling by. Also, the back corner of one of the endzones dropped off about 4 feet for some reason, I saw a kid run a fade route there, and just disappear. Adds a new meaning to the term "trainwreck" when you have a bad game đ Power house private school in town built and amazing athletic facility in the city on old industrial sites. Active train tracks behind visitors as well. Never realized how many trains go through our city until my kids had a track practice there. Also the he field in State College Pa sits below street level, kind of like the Big House, had scout film from them of a game during huge rain storm. Water eventually made its way almost to the hashes when they called the game because they were afraid someone could drown on the bottom of a pile. So donât build your stadium below street level.

Huey worked at a place that had a pack of dogs about ten yards from the visitor sideline that some our kids flat out swore didnât like certain kinds of folks
And I can believe them, and can see it being on purpose

our practice field is literally next door to a budweiser plant. On hot days, it can make a man thirsty Y'all have good sponsorships?? Ha! They actually are nice sponsors of the school itself as a whole. Our practice field land was donated to us by them, before that, we practiced at a park on the rough side of town. Great people!

Maysville, MO there is a cemetery on both sidelines of field. Not right on sideline but when your on the field you can see tombstones on either side. Cabool, MO has a wood chip track around field. Field is a old WPA stadium and is short. On one side end zone goes into wood chips and other end part of end zone goes into concrete wall that is in play.

Many years ago we played at a school where there was no space in press box for opponents' coaches. They had a "crow's nest" on a light pole you had to climb up behind visitor's stands. That crazy. One of schools we play has the visitor "box" as a standing area with wooden fence in the stands. We had a locker room with the bathroom at one end of a horse shoe layout. The bathroom opened to a sink and a toilet beside the sink with no privacy walls. One school we played a few years ago has the visitor coaches stand at the top of the bleachers. We had parents surrounding us the whole game. A school we used to play had the coaches go on top of the gym behind the endzone before they had a press box.

Argenta Oreana HS in Illinois used to put you in a crow's nest that was attached to a light pole that was just inside the concrete ring on the inside of the track. The front of the box only ended up being about 1 yard off the sideline. It was actually a fantastic view of the game.

School I used to coach against had a similar set up. Visitors sideline had bleachers that went 3 rows high, home had bleachers that went 8- no box whatsoever. So I set up on the home side with the extra 5 rows of height to help me out. Midway through the 1st qtr their coach calls time out and throws a fit that I am stealing their plays and listening in from behind their sideline (I was not) and has officials ask me to go to our side's bleachers. Next time we play there they have a rickety set of metal pipes and a platform set up for me, which I imagine collapsed shortly after the game. Coached at another school that recently rented out their field lights to be joint use for cell towers, which caused an issue as coaches in the box could not be heard all the way on the visitors sideline.

I coached for years at one of those "cell towers on field, headsets don't work" schools. Visiting teams would bitch us out all the time like we made the cell tower decision.

I've been on top of school buses, scaffolding, scissor lift, buildings and bleachers. I've been in ridiculous press boxes. I'm almost to the point that you need to call those schools out. If they can't supply a decent place for us when we are there they don't get to use ours.

School about 10 miles from here has a pig farm right next to the football field. Like, literally right next to it. On hot Friday nights when the wind is blowing right...man that is a thing! There's a couple schools in the conference that don't have the football field on campus. I always thought that was odd, especially when there aren't any locker rooms at the field.

That reminds me (Having done this for so long I have a hard time deciding what's weird) we played at a place where the coaches in the box picked up a classic rock radio station on the phone. Another time at another place I was hearing calls from a taxi dispatcher.

In the old days was up in the box of Holt Arena, Idaho State U. We were in the HS playoffs and had those headphones hooked to a CB. We started getting trucker chatter on the headphones. Had to eventually go to the hand set phones. Basically, landline phones.

Iâve told this story on hear but I will go again but the quick version. Basically we had this middle school coach who had a hook prosthetic for one arm. When kids wouldnât do what they were supposed too he would try to pinch their testicles with it. He coached the line so when they were doing stuff he would be behind them and if they werenât low enough he would reach up under their but with that thing and get em. As a kid I just thought it was odd and just wanted to completely avoid it. As an adult I am disturbed by it. I have a son and no way I would allow that to happen. It was never anything sexual or anything like that but still really weird. Uh....what in the world?!?
