No. I think the idea is to get the religious stuff out of the way so that he can get another job.

No. I think the idea is to get the religious stuff out of the way so that he can get another job. That is probably part of it. As a coach/educator/taxpayer/person with a history of involvement in school related athletics, I thought that this entire thing was misguided in the first place. The religious issue should have been secondary, BUT that was the salacious part. The idea that he was trying to haze/humiliate that student to motivate him should have been all that is necessary to relieve him of duties. That said, I would probably take similar measures if I were the coach and had done this, because I honestly do not believe the religious aspect had ANYTHING to do with it. The media angle and story however reads much differently though. The take away from this in our headline only society is that this football coach, in order to punish a player, enacted a plan to purposely try to violate his religious tenants. I don't believe that was the case.

I just wish, for just once, a place like this would let the guy come back to deal with the fallout of a thing like this.
He won't, but I think that would be a better punishment.
The sad part is, if he won some games, people would go right back to kissing his ass.

No comment on the entire situation in regards to the young man or the coaching staff's decisions. I can tell you having coached in Ohio for 10 years at some pretty good places, and in Michigan. This guy will get another coaching job at a place that is desperate to win and "Draw" students. What I think is interesting is that his position as Academic Liaison is likely non-union yet he still will be keeping that job as of now.

Probably have to free up jobs for the new coaches. That video played out exactly as I pictured it. The coach absolutely was trying to create a "private pyle" from "Full Metal Jacket" situation.

That was my initial impression of this whole situation. That the coach saw this in a movie or read about it in a book and thought he would recreate it with high school kids. How many of you guys have ever coached with someone who tried to mimic some big motivational moment or speech that clearly came from a movie? That is maximum cringe. It NEVER elicits the desired response!

My least favorite part of the video... The coach seeming to be playing hoops (with maybe a football) while the kids are working out. That kind of stuff just reeks of unprofessionalism. Ah, the irony of highlighting the unprofessionalism of a coach messing around while guys work out in a video highlighting the coaches bullying a HS kid is not lost on me

The crazy thing is I was just there this spring for a soccer tournament and walked by their weightroom/football facility. I was taking pictures through the windows to show people it was so nice. So what does this guy do? Instead of using a D1 looking weight facility he has kids walking around a gym with plates over their head doing insane stuff... Makes no sense.
