We normally do the the "3 day" install schedule. Basically, we try to install certain plays on day 1, day 2, day 3 during our camp days. After day 3, you start back over at day 1. How do others do it? I am looking to switch it up. I feel there are better ways to install an offense than a 3 day rotation. We end up saving "this" and "that" for August practices. Thanks!

Do you do anything over the summer? I do the 3 day thing as well, but our skilled guys have already seen everything we could do in the pass game by the time official practice starts. Then it's just a matter of reviewing with them and getting some kids who missed for baseball, family trips and whatever else (very small part of our team each year) caught up. I've also done it as a six day where we slow down a bit more depending on what the kids are able to handle. Not all groups are the same and I truly think you have to do what works for them.

To me it is really hard to get everything in in 3 days. I like a 5 day install. We review the day before to start then install the next step or play. I feel rushed in a 3 day.

Yes, we have 10 camp days in the summer, then August practices.

It depends on the ability of your team. No need to say "we HAVE to get X,Y and Z in by ____". See what your team can handle and go from there. Some teams pick stuff up really quickly. Some teams will still be struggling to understand your most basic play in week 8.

I tried to adopt a 3 day install because I saw colleges doing it. I always found that we were rushing things. Now I go to a 15 day install in the spring to get our base offense in. We are not in pads, and only get 45 minutes a day. When we go through the summer, we repeat the 15 days. In fall, we then repeat again.
A lot of us, me included, try to do things because we saw a college guy do it. Figure out what works for your kids. We are constantly adjusting our install schedule and pushing things back. We need to do more eliminating also.

We do a 3 day install for the most part....but we dont just install that way, we practice that way. Day 1 Buck and Iso, and quick game protection. Day 2 Power/Counter and Drop back protection. Day 3 Belly, Jet, Trap, and sprint protection. For the most part anyway. Day 4 back to day 1 either in new formations or new front.... During the season on Monday we run Buck and iso and anything new or that we havent ran in a while. On Tuesday we run Power/Counter for the first 10 plays on the script, if we get through with those, then we go back and review buck and iso. Etc...

Kind of similar to coach vint, i have tried the three day install and I like the theory behind it but I think for me it's not the most effective. Essentially what I do now is a continuous install. Essentially it will look like this...
Formations Motions Shifts Run(s) for the day RPO(s) for the day Quick for the day DBP Safety Read DBP I/S Triangle Read DBP O/S Triangle Read Shot/Play Action/Naked Screen Tricks
There are a couple other things not included on this list, but they will get worked in other places. But essentially what you do is start with the base ground level stuff day 1, then day 2 add in the next, day three the next etc.
So day one would look like this Formations - 2X2 TE, 3X1 TE Sets (11P) Motions - # System Intro Shifts - N/A Run(s) - Base I/S Zone (Arizona/Army/Auburn) RPO(s) - Stick/Stomp/Slant Quick - Spacing DBP Safety Read - Verticals DBP I/S Triangle Read - Shallow DBP O/S Triangle Read - Curl Flat Shot/Play Action/Naked - Storm Screen - Brenda/Bailey Tricks - N/A
And then for day two I would add in the next set of passes, a different QK Game, a different screen, different RPO's, and it would center around our Gap Scheme runs. Then day three install again, back to Inside Zone, and go over and over and over, building off of what you did the day(s) before.

HOWEVER we have done it before, we still believe that everything needs to be in before Sept. 1.
We follow the old Tom Moore adage: “DON’T ADD OR CHANGE THINGS (IF IT WAS THAT GOOD – WE WOULD HAVE PUT IT IN DURING AUGUST”)!
