We are creating a template for self-scouting this year. What are you some items you would put on it? We are just brainstorming and re-evaluating how we self-scout. Thanks!

Take your scouting sheet and change them to you

Get a coaching friend you respect-trust, one you don't play or maybe a retired guy, to breakdown some of your films.

Ask your OC/DC what they look for when scouting. If you have a by week, ask the defensive guys to scout you.
Watch your own film back and see what keeps popping up to you

Get a coaching friend you respect-trust, one you don't play or maybe a retired guy, to breakdown some of your films. This works. I'd like him to watch a live game. I'll make room in the press box for that. BTW...tell him to never pull punches when he gives his evaluation, and then make sure that you don't become a "yabbit". He points out something and you say "...Yeah, But"... During your post season review you may end up saying something like "I should have listened..."

I look for what jumps out
Run/pass per formation Plays per formation Any down/yardage huge tendencies
Most people have tendencies as we only carry so much, know the big ones put in a tweak and you have a chance at a significant shot play or two
This isn’t a sheet or template but it’s served us well
