Last stop, HC used to actually print them out every day.
New Place, HC texts it every day.
Saves trees, and a lot easier.

Granted that every situation is different, but I have no issue with that whatsoever. They're grown men with lives and careers outside of football, so if they feel it's necessary to look at their phone during practice, cool. I've never had a coach who is just idly scrolling through Twitter or swiping on Tinder in practice and I know I'm not much of a dictator. Also, I feel like that attitude shows a lack of respect towards them, like they're barely evolved children or something.

You cannot preach focus, give the idea, just the idea, that coaches are allowed some special privelage, are allowed to be distracted. In the class room, unless i am talking or they are taking a test, its a losing fight.

We're going to disagree on this, clearly, but I personally have zero qualms with stating that my coaches can use their phones at practice without it being a detriment.

Differing opinion doesn’t make it wrong, just to be clear. I don’t care about being equal. I don’t view it as top down. On the field, in installs, film session, I am not doing that, Opening that can of worms. Again, we just go about it differently.

I hate having my phone on me during practice; coaching in practice can get physical and if I got my phone in my pocket there is a good chance I may crack or break it over the season.
I keep it in a duffel bag and check it during breaks to make sure the AD or parent hasnt texted about an emergency, but no need to keep it on me.

The main reason I got a 'smart' watch was to be able to glance at notifications/incoming calls quickly without having to pull my phone out. I don't have to have the phone on me during practice any more, just close enough for just in case I need it.

From my experience, since the headcoach is the time keeper, guys generally either skim it before practice to get a general feel (or sadly don't look at it at all!... even if printed lol) The only time a guy looks at it for more than 3 seconds in practice is when they are leading a group period and have to refresh their brains on what we are emphasizing i.e.: coverage for offensive 7 on 7 Overall we got a great group of coaches that don't abuse the whole "I was only checking the schedule on my phone" thing.

I print up practice schedules, but they are essentially the same thing every week; my Tuesday in August looks exactly the same as my Tuesday in November (at least in regards to what a practice schedule will read). We work on the same drills in indy time, and spend the same amount of time on team. We do what we do. So a coach can have the same practice schedule for most of our practices from the start of the year to the end.

We liked Lou Holtz' Practice "Organization" broken up in 5 minute blocks. Each segment (period) got as many "5 minute blocks" as needed!
