It is nice to teach/coach in Texas, guys, but don't believe everything you read about the no classes, big pay, etc. I am a coordinator, and have been one for a large number of years, and teach 4 classes a day, two preps. That is two preps each semester, which is actually 4 preps for the year. One of my classes is an AP class which requires as much of my time as coaching. Or so it seems. BTW, I get no extra money for teaching AP. I envy Coach Huey. He is a coordinator in a AAAA school and says he only has one class, I have been a coordinator ina AAAA school and had, 4classes. I spent four years as a head football coach and had 4 classes. I have only been at one school in my career where I did not have to drive a bus. I have 35 years of experience and make in the mid $50's. Those are the realities of Texas coaching. Don't think everyone has a gravy train. yes, split, i feel very fortunate. there probably are certain "perks" with coaching at a 5a school in tx (5a is largest class, for non-tx guys). I have been to both extemes....5A Coordinator....5 Classes.....5A Assistant 1 Class....I am lucky and forunate to be in the situation I am in....thats why I started this tread....what looked to be a good job when I was teaching 5 classes...now...looks like a poor job...

A lot depends on the school you are at and their emphasis on winning. I'm at a 1A school in Texas (smallest 11 man conference). I am the AD/Hd FB, and have no classroom responsibilities, and have driven the bus a couple of times in the last two years(for field trips for the band, science club, etc..), and although I don't make a ton of money (50's) it is the most I have made in my 12 years teaching/coaching. I'm sure that I make less than a considerable amount of coaches in the metroplex areas, but it is worth it because of lower cost of living, the environment in which my family is raised, and running my very own program. Take a hard look at all facets of a job before you make a determination of yes or no would be my advice.
