Do any of you have experience with the face shields they came out with for Covid. We play in February and I'd like some info on pros and cons.

I know some teams that ordered them at the start of the season here.
Not one of them ended up wearing them in a game this year.

I never had a kid who started Game 1 with a face shield wear it past that game. Only 1 didn't take it off before halftime.

We have the thin plastic ones that have holes punched in them and are zip tied to the face mask. We ordered them from Addix. We did have a coach use a 3D printer to make some out of a thicker plastic as well which worked much better.
Pros: Kids would take them anyday over wearing a mask
Cons: Break constantly! We probaly replace 10-15 of them every week
I am not getting into a debate on the merits of wearing one but after seeing how covered they are on the inside after 1 game, I get why someone somewhere thought it was a good idea. Is it really preventing anything? I dont know.

Our kids didn't wear anything on the field, coaches wore facemasks or shields. We had zero cases of spread within the team. Lots of brothers/family member transmissions but none tied back to the team. And unfortunately our state is absolutely blowing up with cases.

I don't know how much they helped but I am glad we wore them. Maybe it reassured some of them who had anxieties or their parents. Our season ended last Friday night to Jackson Lumen Christi (a powerhouse in Michigan ) and now it appears that the football playoffs are "paused" until December 8.

We had a dad make a template for each type of helmet our kids had and he cut them from a big sheet of plexi and they attached using the facemasks hardware. They looked really clean and we were much happier with these after we tried the flimsy vinyl ones that you ziptied on.

Our medical panel mandated that we wear masks even during active play. I didn't like the early reviews of the Schutt splash shield but found a 2-ply gaiter material online that velcros to the face mask. Very breathable and really didn't bother our guys. Got them from a company called Gameday Safe. PM if you'd like more details.
