We were told this week we will need to have our players wear masks on the sideline.
It seems like a logistical nightmare as players quickly sub in and out and the masks get lost.
Anyone else in this situation or have any suggestions?

Get the neck masks? the longer ones that you can wear as a turtle neck. Kids can slide them up and down as needed. That would be my best guess

Anyone hear of players being required to wear masks during play?

That would be my best guess There has been a study out of Duke that the Gaiter masks increase the potential of contracting covid. It’s so short term on all of this that I can’t imagine anyone can give a well informed answer. Frankly, it’s very frustrating. I’m a tell me what I need to do and I will do it type of guy, but this whole thing as been so whacky I can’t figure out how to best address it.

I've heard the same about the Gator masks and was told we likely won't be able to use them.

We just ordered team gaiters, I'm sure there is a study out there that says they are okay. They want kids with a face covering on the sidelines and that's what we are getting. Cause laying on the bottom of a pile with the other team during a game is fine but a gaiter on the sideline around guys you have been exposed to for weeks may spread corona....

Just going by the rules the A.D gave us.

I don’t know where you coach but we were told the same thing. It will be difficult to enforce but they later clarified that the officials can stop the game if a team isn’t following it.

That would be my best guess Gaiters 👍 They also are much easier to breathe through (and thus less effective at actually helping). However, until a specific type of face covering is required, I much prefer this.

Compared to most cloth masks, most likely. The air flow through them is higher so surely ANY virus can pass through. Compared to wearing nothing covering the face there can’t be an increased risk. On top of that, the virus has to actually be present on water droplets in the air you are inhaling before a mask even matters. Not saying the virus doesn’t exist, but somebody else has to actually have it & be exhaling it before the virus can actually be a problem. The probability of a person spreading it simply has to be low until they are actually symptomatic coughing up the water droplets containing the virus & sending it onward through the air.

That would be my best guess I think the latest that has come out is you can't have the gaiters around your neck during play as it is liable to be pulled on like a horse collar. Have seen kids wear the gaiter with the bottom pulled up from the bottom back over the head. Kind of looks like ninja gear. I suppose the gaiter could be worn as shown if the mouth guard wasn't attached to the helmet. And yes, it will be one of several logistics concerns this season.

There's a several day lag between being infected and showing symptoms and you ARE contagious during that time. That's one reason that the virus has spread so much.
