What are your favorite pregame meals for your players? Do you try to give a variety?

In honesty, I've read a bunch of stuff and talked to a few trainers and cold cut sandwiches seem to be the consensus best pre game meal.
Now, the night before? Carb it up, but you'll never digest a heavy carb meal in time for it to make a difference in pregame is essentially the consensus.

6" Subway chicken or turkey sub, small bag of chips, small side salad, fresh fruit, cookie, Gatorade or water.

We always did the Subway thing. 6 inch, chips (no jalapeno), cookie.
There are still some kids that don't tolerate that well on a nervous stomach so we had bananas and Gatorade whey protein bars available.

We do Penne Pasta, Grilled Chicken, Bread, Banana, Water or Gatorade. The kids asked for chicken Parma last year as a change up. I did not see any adverse effects. We are in NY so the Chicken Parm we get is pretty good. I have to watch some of the guys from eating too much.

Not Casey's pizza. So. Much. Vomit. Except their breakfast pizza Our parents actually bought that for the kids Week 1 one year. Literally all of the vomit. You haven't lived until your Qb throws up on your shoes while your losing 28-6.

I just realized this is pre-game meals. I thought it was post-game. I was confused why people were throwing up; now it makes sense.

The best post game meal is whichever place will give us the biggest cut of the receipt.

Not Casey's pizza. So. Much. Vomit. We did the same thing once with baseball and our shortstop hurled all over the dugout. Ugh

I had a parent ask to feed the wrestling team at a tournament once. There had been parents do it in the past and they always had a cooler full of fruit and light sandwiches for the kids during the day. This parent was new, his son had never wrestled, but I figured he would have a clue on what should and shouldn't be eaten before wrestling. I walked out of the coaches meeting to see my team sitting around buckets of fried chicken from KFC.

I walked out of the coaches meeting to see my team sitting around buckets of fried chicken from KFC. When I was a head coach in baseball we used to play a team in a Friday night double header every year. When it was at their place they would set our team up with a buffet of fried chicken and pizza and junk food with soda as a drink. For their team they would have fruit and salads and grilled chicken. It cracked me up. Our kids loved it. At first we thought about just packing something light but then we said screw it. It’s a Friday night let’s just have some fun and ate it. They were good and we did beat them a couple times but always in the first game.
