How do you guys watch film? What devices do you use and do you listen to music or watch silently? I watch it early, and in the dark. Noise is detestable(especially at that hr.).pot of coffee, iPad, yellow legal pad.

Seriously? Are you guys really serious? I swear that y'all ask questions like this just to piss me off! Just watch film however you want to! What does it matter how everyone else watches it!?!?

Often in the living room on the couch beside my kids playing or watching television. Try to be as present as possible yet too often completely oblivious of surroundings...

After wife and kids are in bed...i will watch on computer or have it on the bigger tv...my eyes are too old for devices. Also watch with the volume on film on. Sometimes the guy up top will give you a clue at what they are doing. Those young coaches at top give out too much information at times.

How do you guys watch film? What devices do you use and do you listen to music or watch silently? Varies according to if we are watching the previous night's game, OR, film of next opponent: Usual Routine (organized & not "hit or miss"): 1. SATURDAY: Watch previous (Fri) game with STAFF on Sat. morn. (8-9 AM). Each position coach charts "correctable mistakes". 2. SATURDAY: Show previous (Fri) game to TEAM on Sat. morn. (9-10:30). Position Coaches go over "correctable mistakes". NO MENTION OF PREVIOUS OPPONENT AFTER THAT (win or lose, concentration shifts to NEXT opponent)!!! 3. SATURDAY: Watch next opponent with STAFF on Sat. morn. (10:30-12). Each position coach has things to chart. NOTE: Players do Weight Training at this time (then are free to leave). 4. MONDAY: Show next opponent to TEAM on Monday (before practice). Also Thurs AFTER practice if needed. 5. TUESDAY: As QB Coach - will watch next opponent's defense with QB's before practice Tuesday (& they fill out sheets on it). NOTE: As HFC - I will watch next opponent alone (several times during the week, from SUNDAY thru THURSDAY). Other Coaches do the same

Weekend on my own I watch it at home and during week it’s pre practice since I work 5-1. I’ll usually have my headphones on with some music. In the football office I’m usually the only one in there from 130-230 so I’ll use the speakers the school installed to play music over that. HC if he walks in will tease but he doesn’t mind - usually I’ll turn it off because we’ll end up talking about practice or scheme. The office door if I’m in there is usually open so guys can knock if they need anything. I keep a stash of nutrigrain bars in there and some extra waters from game nights, if guys need something before practice they can ask well give them something pre practice or post practice if there’s a meeting. Equipment wise I have only one monitor. At home it’s just off that. In the office we have a projector so sometimes I’ll throw it on there although by habit I tend to look more at my computer screen anyways. When HC comes in and wants to watch/throw up stuff I’ll hook up the other computer to it and I’ll work independently.

We play on Saturday. I will watch that game on Sunday after Mass. I will watch some film of next opponent later that day as well to assess opponent's personnel (I watch the LB's). I will have NFL RedZone on in the background.
Monday create cutups of base defense with report during my prep. Will watch previous game with my position (RB) then next opponent after dinner with the OL coach to determine base defense.
Tuesday create cutups of blitzes and stunts with report during my prep. Will watch cutups of opponent's base defense with position. After practice with OL coach to determine blitz and stunts and what our protections will be.
Wednesday create cutups of short yardage/red zone/goal line defense with report during my prep. Will watch blitzes and stunts cutups with position. After practice with OL coach to determine short yardage/red zone/goal line defense.
Thursday will watch short yardage/red zone/goal line cutups with position.
I will have music on in my classroom while watching film and making cutups.
I have an issue with working ahead. I prefer not to look at the next opponent until after the game.

In the past 2 seasons I have been in school and worked a weekend job as a front desk clerk, so Saturday and Sunday mornings I would watch film from like 7-3 and throughout the week at random times.
Have a teaching job now and a baby due any second so I'm going to figure out some sort of schedule. I have a computer I hook up to my TV in my office and I am going to use the two screen feature a lot for when I'm inputting data, but I also can just watch it on my laptop or iPad. Will probably be able to watch periodically during school.
As a staff we watch film on Sunday. Previous game and opponents scout footage. Do we need to? Probably not, but it's good to come together and air stuff out face to face. Also some of the not as serious guys it'll be the only film they watch all week.

I enjoy watching film alone. I’m easily distracted. Usually for game film, I get up at 6 or 7 Saturday morning and stat the defense. That takes about an hour. Then I will go walk a couple miles, come back and put correction notes in from the night before. After that I spend some time with my family for lunch.
Sometime around 2 or 3 I will start breaking down the opponents film. I work as long as I need to or till dinner. That’s it for me on Saturday.
If I need to watch anymore, and I usually don’t then, I will gat up early Sunday and do it. Otherwise, we meet at one on Sundays so we will knock out the game plan then and do all of our cards.
We watch Tuesday and Wednesday practice film as well. I spend about an hour on it each night and send notes kids will watch on their own in fourth block weights.

Once the season gets going, we get every snap of inside run & team filmed. Most snaps of 7-on-7 depending on the opponent. Ends up taking about 15 or so minutes to upload & tag. I’ll watch it at least 1 more time before going to sleep (another 10-15 minutes) & then add any comments in the morning (another 15 or so minutes often while multitasking) & re-share the film before the school day starts. Hopefully have some film to upload tonight!

Get home Friday night. Turn on whatever High School game is on the local television. And start grading the film. Focusing on my position group. And making sure they have grades in their lockers by Saturday morning.
Saturday through Tuesday I'm typically looking at scheme and Tendencies of the upcoming opponent. When and where I do it vary. But I make sure I get at least an hour every night especially on Monday and Tuesday.
Saturday takes much longer as far as making sure we're checking Tendencies and getting everything in put into hudl.

For prescout I’ll crush it with something on in the background, it’s pretty mindless.
For scout/data entry it’s basically the same. Anything tricky I leave and come back to it after with focus.
To actually study is when I’ll get into a more focussed state in my bubble. I don’t want to watch with other people at first because the discussion tends to drag and I want to have my own thoughts beforehand. When we watch in a group I want to go over a curated playlist to be more efficient. I don’t need to watch 1000 plays with the guys, let’s focus on the stuff we’ve identified as being most relevant.

Best setup and routine I had was when I coached HS on the west coast.
I tend to wake up earlier and began film at like 6 or 7. Would turn on college gameday as background noise. Big 10 games started at 9 am and I would have one on while finishing the film. Big plays or whatever and I could pause it. But other than that I really wasn't paying attention. By the time the 330 ET SEC matchup came around, I was usually done. I could either crack open a cold one and enjoy that game, then the primetime game, and then some pac12 or mountain west at night. Or I would start tailgating for a Fresno State game. Go Dogs. Sunday we would meet. I would nap. And then watch some more film in more detail while the NFL games are on.
At the college level, it was a "job". And I would absolutely listen to music. Nothing crazy, but whatever I was in the mood for. Generally music that was more instrumental and melodic than lyrical.
I really enjoy working with background music. And I often work best in the morning. Like wake up at 3 and work while the wife is sleeping.
For music - I like spotify and will likely split a membership with another coaching buddy.

I know I'm in the minority, but I'd watch it Saturday morning with staff and a little more on my own Sat night/Sunday and then that was it. I never understood watching it repeatedly. After about 2 times through it I can tell you what the play is going to be and how they run it, so what's the point of repeatedly watching it?
I'm sure that makes me a bad/lazy person, but it is what it is.

S-pull down screen T-Table
..............................................ssss ................................................................ ...................................T........................T .....................................TTTTTTTTTTT
This is our meeting area in general. Its awesome cause I can sit anywhere in a meeting and see just fine. But at 5 am, its me and nobody else. On Sat. Mornings. I get in about 4. I have watched the previous nights game at least once by the time I get in at 4. By six, I have my areas broke down. And working finishing input for the Friday coming and working on the following opponent.
