Hey guys,
Have any of you ever had an athletic director on your football account as an admin. He’s never coached or played football and I’m a bit skeptical on why he added himself. Can y’all please share your thoughts on how you’d feel?
Thanks

My AD has always been on as an admin at multiple schools. He gets the email when the bill is due and then pays it. Never been a big deal at all.

Our AD is on ours, but as gas I know she just pays the bill.
We have an assistant principal on ours as well that watches 2-3 hours a week of film. He’s never said a word to me about what he’s watching and I’m not the head coach so I don’t worry about it.
We also have a couple of dads on ours who will have 20-25 minutes of watch time during the season. I have never been anywhere that adds parents but maybe they are making highlight videos or something. Since I’m not the head coach, I don’t ask any questions.

It's not uncommon, especially when no coaches are teachers/school employees. If anything it's CYA for admin if there's online bullying.

Me and the AD are the only admins on our account.

If he oversees the athletic department and all that's involved with it why wouldn't he be allowed to have access? with being able to communicate with the players on there admin would want some way to monitor it at the very least. Also would assume if the school is paying for it then they have every right to access it just like any other district technology you use.

Every AD I've worked under has been an admin on HUDL since we started using it. There's never been an issue and it's proven to be helpful in the past. An opposing HC wanted to share a film we already had of them and refused to send us their previous week's game. Long story short, our AD communicated with their AD via HUDL and we got the film that we wanted.

I'm an AD/HC. When I'm no longer an AD, I will want our district's next one to be on there...let them see how much we use it.
In our state it is aidable so I hope we can continue having our district pay for the base subscriptions.

The AD's I worked under did not know what Hudl was and had no interest in having an account. We had to fund raise for Hudl so it wasn't on their radar. The only thing the school covered was reconditioning, busses, coaches sitpends, and game day - lights, officials. One did end up with Hudl after asking me about it but it was for girls basketball as he was their coach. Since there was no interest from anyone in the admin side I would have been suspicious had they wanted access, a 'change in behavioral pattern' if you will.

Never had an AD or non coach on ours. Both the schools I've been at paid for Hudl through booster funds, not through the school, that might be why.

I’ve never heard of an AD being on Hudl. Or any parents. They can use their son’s account to watch film.

Every school I have ever been at has had the AD on Hudl, #1 for the bill, and #2 we film practice alot. So the first time Mama comes in complaining about why Johnny isn't playing, and I tell her that he doesn't give any effort at practice or likes to be a spectator at practice, I can pull up practice film and its right there for them.

If you're not doing anything wrong, you have nothing to worry about.

I’ve never heard of an AD being on Hudl. Or any parents. They can use their son’s account to watch film. Thought one of our guys who was leading in hours of filmed watched each week was spending upwards of 8+ hours. Turned out the majority of the hours were his grandparents & uncles from out watching the full games. Actually, quite cool that you can share your film with extended family like that by simply sharing your login.

It would be cool if HUDL would add a family account option, where you could use it as a fundraiser if you chose. I would pay 2 or 3 dollars a game to see some of my loved ones play.

Everyone could win in this scenario.

And ya -
Don't get upset about it. The AD foots the bill. And you can even see how much everyone watches if you are concerned that he is being too "big brother". But heck, the AD can watch your practice and likely watches all the games anyways.

Definitely add a small fee for full game access and you probably do generate a few extra $.

Our AD is an admin on hudl. He makes sure the bill is paid, and he is the one who added me to hudl when I was hired as the HC. If the AD doesn't have access, who would be responsible for getting a new coach on hudl? The person who was fired or retired? He watches the film sometimes, sometimes he doesn't. He has coached football in the past, but as an assistant.

All you have to do is make that coach an admin and have yourself deleted; it's not a difficult process and I don't see why anyone would not do this if they were leaving. I have done it and I have had other coaches do it for me as well.

Can y’all please share your thoughts on how you’d feel? Thanks I've offered any administrator (including our supe) and account that wants one. My thoughts are that I'm confident in our work ethic and approach as a staff so I have nothing to hide. I even feel it's a little analogous to police bodycam footage. If anything comes up accusatory or what have have you we have the visual evidence to dispute accusations. We film practice almost daily so we can teach and have evidence of teaching fundamentals, treating kids professionally (not perfectly mind you) etc. If you're doing things the right way I think it's a good thing. If you're not, I think it's a good tool to eval yourself and improve as you know that you're quite possible being evaluated on some of the stuff that's on their. JMO of course.
