Those of you whose team has a website can you post a link and tell us how you have it and who runs it. Is it a school website or is it funded by the football program? Does a parent run it or the school or one of the coaches? Just curious, would love for our program to get one up and running some day.

Our site: www.folsomfootball.comI am an off campus coach. I designed it, programmed it, maintain it and I pay for it. The only real difficulty is the first design and programming. Maintenance takes a few hours per month. The hosting cost is really free since I have it attached to another site I own. If I were to pay for it separately, it would cost less than $10/month. If you can use Word, and can understand some basic principles, you can program your own site. It doesn't need to be fancy . . .and if you can afford a basic tool like Microsoft FrontPage, it is pretty easy. figure it would take 5 to 20 hours to setup your first site. My site has some slightly advanced features, like the streaming video and the countdown clock . . .but, don't worry, those can come later.

A link to our site that I created and maintain: www.sitekreator.com/sgrebelsbulldog, It took me a while to realize that I had to plug in an HTML code to put a countdown clock on my site. I was about to go nuts just trying to copy and paste the code onto the site, then having nothing appear. LOL

I would be curious to get some more insight on this topic.
1) How many of y'all have a team website 2) How many hits do you typically get and how much do you update it? 3) Is it used to interact with the players, or do you use it just for promotion? 4) Do you use a school-affliated domain or not? (pros & cons) 5) Your experiences with how the administration and faculty view this (may be cultural/generational issues at play)?

I think it's one of the greatest tools to communicate to my players (since I'm off campus). I maintain it, wasn't easy at first, but like anything-- once you start toying with it; it gets easy. www.prospectfootball.org I picked up some great ideas on this board from coaches like bulldog (by the way great! site). I just want to say thanks! to all the coaches who are frequent posters on this board--- I consider this board to be a daily clinic for me (Thanks! Coach Huey)

I went and bought a domain first. You can do this by going to many websites. I have used catalog.com and godaddy.com. You can purchase names at these websites. Next, if you are able to, I would create a website on your school server. This will allow you to have unlimited space. It gets very expensive if you use the servers with the domain providers. After you have created your site at school, go back into your account and mask your domain name. This will allow you users to type in your domain and your website will automaticall be sent to your website at school, yet still read your domain name. Here is an example. You bought www.schoolfootball.com as your domain name. You create a site at school but the domain name is www.schoolname.com/yourname/folder/htmlUsually school websites are too lengthy to remember. You can go back into your account and redirect or "mask" your domain www.schoolfootball.com to your school site www.schoolname.com/youname/folder/htmlSo now when someone types in www.schoolfootball.com it will send them to your website that you created at school, yet still read in the address bar - www.schoolfootball.comHopefully this makes a little sense and helps

(pros & cons) no we do not 5) Your experiences with how the administration and faculty view this (may be cultural/generational issues at play)? we havent had any complaints

www.bvasd.net/hs/Football/foothome.htmThis is our site which is maintained on our school district website. One of our business teachers keeps it up and running and we get the photo's and information to her. It's still in it's developmental stage as we plan to add more to it, I just have to find the time to get the additional information to her.

Hi guys, Great sites - some of them are amazing. We certainly couldn't afford to have one designed and maintained for us. We tried our school's server. It looked great and was certainly used, but tough to maintain as limited access was granted. Most of the changes had to go through one of the school's IT guys. Within the last month we've switched to a blog. We settled on www.blogger.com as a way to host it for free. Though limited in some design elements, it gives us most of what we want. www.noblefootball.blogspot.comHappy reading!
