Few things I have seen in the last few days here: They did a study at our sewage treatment plant and said the results show there should be about 24,000 cases in our city/county or whatever area poops and it ends up there. We have 100 right now. So.... Our school district is planning on being open every day for every student....with options to stay home or come whenever. And we are going to follow guidelines from CDC I believe in the schools. We bus a TON of kids to school every day. Now we are limited to like 20 kids on a bus. So like 15 HS kids in a room who don't leave that room all day. In a school of 1800 kids. In the inner-city. So basically in-person cyber school for the HS kids at this point. So... With all this I find it hard to believe that in about a months time we are going to be told "Alright strap 'em up and start hitting!!!" The district I teach in hasn't even approved a return to sports policy yet even though state association said it's okay. Who knows how long that will be "in legal being looked at" as people have been told. Don't hold your breath on a season as much as I want one. Just saw school in Houston area shutting down S/C till July 13th or so now. How do they know that {censored}?!?

How do they know that {censored}?!? Not sure I want to know or find out... I mean that is an impressive application of science & technology. Amazing actually that someone thought of checking the approximate spread of the virus that way & even more so that the technology makes it possible. However, my initial thoughts also were someone is figuring things out with literal {censored}!

Here's the thing. Nothing is changing. If it's determined that it's to dangerous to do team sports this year then team sports aren't coming back. People can tell me all they want that a vaccine will be ready in January. Historical data of all viruses tells us it takes 20 years on average to reach a vaccine. So if it's decided that this 99.5% survivable virus is just too dangerous and we have to close up schools and team sports in 2020 they aren't coming back anytime soon.

Bombshell if the finding is confirmed. I've long wondered how really novel this virus is. Good thing they've been saving sewage samples going back so long.

Thanks. Take care as those June 8th numbers would indicate a rise in symptomatic cases & accompanying deaths starting just a week or so ago through the present.

Technically SARS-CoV2 is a pneumonia agent, so identifying a COVID-19 patient as having viral pneumonia is not wrong. It's just one of the many viruses and other infectious agents that can cause pneumonias. The first SARS was a pneumonia agent too.

That’s the thing, we have been steady at like 5-6-7 cases a day. Think we are around 500 total since March and maybe 10 deaths so far. No surge so far

Our Gov just extended the current social distancing/work from home/etc executive order for the state through Aug 29. I'm thinking that should just about do it for the season.

When is start of school year? Is Tennessee a pre labor day or post labor day start? For Louisiana that would be almost 2 weeks into the start of the new school year. Louisiana's Gov held LA in "phase 2" of the reopening protocols, but has said several times he believes schools will open at the scheduled time. It sort of has the vibe of "we will be in phase 3, regardless of the mental gymnastics it will take to get there"

T$$AA board has a meeting scheduled for tomorrow, the grapevine says they may look at moving football to spring. The director was quoted a couple months ago saying they can't make it financially without football playoffs, so who knows.

Makes total sense to flip flop seasons but I do not see there being enough support for it. Everyone wants "their season" to be protected.

I don’t have an exact number but I’m pretty sure we’ve hit double digits on number of teams who either have shut down due to having to quarantine or they are currently quarantining.

I will suggest that if we have HS football at all, it will be late and done in the face of all the crap we hear about safety.

I hate to admit I'm in NY but it's not looking good. I like the flipping seasons spring and fall but football in New York just isn't important enough for it to be considered-my guess.

You watch....all of this and an announcement on a vaccine will come...and the however it is at that moment, will seem like a bad dream. And quickly forgotten as though it never happened...and all of it.

I just want to thank you all for being who you are and contributing to the profession as you have and continue to do.
I just got back into coaching football recently (some details under my signature), so I haven't been on this site much for several years now. Seeing this mostly level-headed, civil discussion is truly a breath of fresh air. These last four months, stuck with this computer for the majority of my outside socialization has not been great for my opinion on the overall intelligence of the human race. Every time I mention my views on something about COVID-19, I get blasted with opposing views that have no evidential backing whatsoever. It's so different in this thread. Even the opinions I disagree with here are presented in such a way where I can still respect them.
(I had to make sure to read to the end, because there was a time or two I was wondering if this was going sideways, HA!)
Now if you all could just be this civil when we discuss blocking schemes, we could really get somewhere. ;-)

Seems possible as many places were initially identifying COVID-19 cases as pneumonia because so many of the symptoms are similar. I'm in NJ. We have a good friend that had what we all thought was pneumonia on NYE. She looked like death. I got the flu in December. Standard, 24 hr, squirts, the whole bit. Then in February I got another bout of what I thought was the flu... but it lasted a week. It sucked. I have never in my life taken sick days back to back. Until this February. I took 2 and "sucked it up" to go to school after that. I was a mess. Didn't work out, went straight to school and straight home (I never do that). I found videos for my classes to watch while I shivered at my desk. ... Except AP Econ. I had to teach the class. The show must go on. So I did. Valiantly tried my hardest. I could barely speak and was short of breath while teaching. During the lesson as I am writing on the board, my nose just starts dumping blood. I wiped it with my shirt just thinking it was a runny nose. Nope. I am spilling blood. I plug it, clean the best I can and continue the lesson. It was a mess. But never occurred to me that I had the coronavirus. We all thought it hadn't hit the US yet. What an ordeal. Point is, this stuff definitely hit quicker than we had originally thought. We have about 40 kids (out of 400) at our school that are from China... a lot of them went home for Christmas Break and came back. We had a serious amount of students and teachers that all got sick with that same week long sickness in January and February (people had gone to CA, OR, the Middle East). So ya. We definitely had it at our school and I was a machine in spreading it. I feel bad but we only get 2 personal days and 6 sick days. So I don't want to use it for a "little sickness", especially with my wife being pregnant. Needed to use some sick time for Dr's appointments. Also I was in 3 weddings this year. I don't have any family or friends in NJ. So the 3 weddings... 2 personal days... you do the math. I "got sick" for one of those. Forgive me for not wanting to miss important times in the lives of my friends and family. It's a mess. But I am optimistic for the future. But I hope that we can possibly get ahead of the curve and figure out a way to just do football in Spring (without interfering with other sports). I know it would mean a shortened season. But I just want to play and it would be extra time to get kids into athletic shape.
