I ask that some of our opponents express their first amendment rights and take a knee all night when they are on offense.

I hate the whole, "lets do something" even it means nothing meaningful. If you feel so passionate about a cause or issue, find a way to have your kids do something meaningful and then don't worry about blasting every social media platform.

It’s different, but when I was a head coach we did a community service project. Our ambitious ass. principal asked if he could come and take pictures to put on social media. I told him no. He was frustrated, but I told him we wouldn’t do it if it was going to be about publicity and not just helping others.

Like when cops get videoed handing out candy to poor kids and it gets barfed all over social media. Ugh.

Reminds me of the story of running lights in the 1950s. Might've been Paul Harvey or some other radio commenter who got people to turn their headlights on while driving in daylight to indicate support for...whatever. After a while running with lights on came to mean any of a variety of things, many probably contradicting each other; maybe they alternated days? This led to a lot of dead car batteries, so people started installing a small running light. See also Thurber's Fable for Our Times, "The Very Proper Gander". Or the bit in The President's Analyst about the people next door, "Real right wingers -- flying the flag every day!" Remember Dicks Out for Harambe? Reminds me also of the stickers at polling places, "I Voted". Whoopee. Somebody else voted too, for the other guy, so your votes canceled each other'a. Why should I care about the fact that people voted, if I don't know who or what they voted for or against? If you're for a cause that everybody's for, why are any of you advertising it? Tell me why you disagree with most, that's more interesting. If you're for something that everybody's for, the only thing to brag about is helping to accomplish it, like if you want to cure cancer, tell me about your research that might lead to a cure or at least better understanding. A propôs of nothing, daytime running lights have been mandatory here for 30 years.

What if your team unanimously approached you and said they wanted to do this? What if you played a power that week? What would you tell your team? Just curious. If it had been the right game where they asked to do this, I very well could have lost my job. Got a HC job in 2010, went 4-5 year one. Not bad, but was a historically successful place. Started 0-3 year 2 and there were grumblings. From admins. Won the next 2 and in week 6 played the #5 ranked team in our class. Local paper picked them to win 56-28 or something. Play 1 or wing suggests we run sweep right. I let him call the play. We pancake like 6 kids for an 80yd touchdown. That kicked off a game long physical ass whooping we won 28-6. Went on to win 24 straight regular season games. That single play exploded our next 3 years in a positive manner. That team would have also never asked to do that, but not my point.

Tell your opponent you are taking the knee, then turn it into your version of the Dan Marino fake spike play.

Just out of curiosity, what would your answer have been? Depends on when they asked. Monday? Let me think about it, but ultimately probably no. Tuesday? No, but here's why. Thursday? No. Friday? No, that's stupid. As that kid was jogging on the field and looked back and suggested it like the sweep? I don't think this site will let me type my answer.

My HC/boss’s answer on monday would be yours on Friday. And expletive filled.

It's the only tweet with that hashtag as far as I can tell. I somehow doubt a tweet from an account with 4k followers with 3 retweets and 10 likes is going to generate national attention but YMMV.

I saw an air raid guy on Twitter today saying they were going to take a knee on first down their first play this season. He is really trying to get a national movement going with this, and he has like 4000 followers. I really wanted to ask why, as in what will it do to further anything but I didn't want to get roasted by the internet. My problem is I loathe symbolism and all of the #_____strong, and lights on the field for our seniors who don't get to play and so on. I believe it to be adults doing something to make adults feel good. So my question is, the Saturday morning after this happens will anything have changed? Does this guy want to do this so everyone will know that his program cares? I kind of feel this is akin to the pink out thing (symbolism, not issue). I am not against this or being a hater by any means, I just really don't believe stuff like this does anything. Please keep this civil guys, I think we all want the same thing, at least I hope we do. I just struggle with people doing something to be doing something. I love how it was clearly defined as an “air raid guy,” because you know a Wing T coach needs those 3 yards on first down.

As someone coming off a really bad season, I need those 3.5 yards and so do our kids. I’d rather do something with more meaning, like many of you have said.

Furthermore, not a big fan of asking high school kids to make political statements, especially of someone else's choosing. Last but certainly not least, I feel like kids are the last ones that need to reflect on this kind of stuff. The kids I see around our school and neighborhood interact with different races all the time and their friend groups are much more diverse than mine ever was. I think the kids are eons ahead of the adults and most of them have this thing figured out. Let the kids focus on sports and play the game, let the people who need to do any soul searching (mostly adults) make a statement of their choosing. JMO.
