Are any of the coaches on the board still using a VHS camera and VCR tapes?
If you made the switch to digital how long ago did you switch?
Any pros/cons?
Thanks for the info.

We are caught in the middle. We use digital to film, make our DVDs then have to convert to VHS to trade. We then get our opponents tape on VHS and burn DVDs and save them digitally. It is a real pain in the butt.

It takes a while for everyone to make the switch, LOL, I can remember when it was super 8 on a projector.

Last year we switched from Hi8 to MiniDV. Everybody in our league was trading DVD's and we were still doing VHS. So the school picked up a new MiniDV camera and DVD burning tower becaused we convinced them it could be used for both football and basketball teams and make video yearbooks for the students. Then during basketball season, the new camera got stolen. ![::)](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/eyesroll.png)

We use the mini-dv format for all our film. We have one of those dual deck vhs/mini-dv players with a cowboy since we still get vhs in trades and need to copy our film to vhs since a lot of teams in our region still have vhs for all their film. I also have an editing/scouting software I use to make dvd's which I don't think anyone in our region has or uses. I am sure in about 5-10 years it will all be DVD.

our conference went to trading dvd's last year and it worked pretty well for the most part. We have 2 schools that used a couple of us in the conference to come in and help them set it up. I know its a lot easier on us to copy dvd's than vhs tapes.

The problem that we run into is that many schools are still on VHS while others are using digital. So schools are spending extra time converting scout tapes from VHS to DVD or vice versa. It will be nice when everyone is using the same format.
